I can think of one - if the plane is on fire and the doors are too hot to escape - then an axe could cut another opening for the passengers. Just a thought.

I find this thread fascinating to see how people think or not about such things. Battering ram? Like where is that stored? Then why use a battering ram when you could just use small explosives? Explosives? Nah. Just use a welding torch to cut thru the door. Ha ha.
Some German pilot called into Hannity today and said the axe is in the cockpit but there is a crowbar near the rear of the plane so maybe that is what he was using.

Several types of FAA approved crash axes exist, but the average size envelope remains the same.
First order of the FAA under a new administration is to allow these axes in carryon, followed by personalizing the TSA aka privatize ‘em.
I seriously doubt that any police action could be taken in an 8 minute envelope considering determining threat, court orders and tracing.
