Authorities have said Redus grabbed Carter’s baton and hit the officer with it before Carter, who was described as much larger than Redus, regained control of it. Redus broke from the officer’s grasp and came at him with a raised fist, and that’s when Carter opened fire, officials have said.

Carter was literally twice Redus's size. He probably had a better than even chance of subduing Redus with his bare hands. With a baton, he should have been able to beat him into submission. Shooting the kid might have been overkill...

In this day of video, cops shouldn’t swing more than once or twice at an arm or leg. Video gets out of you giving a wood shampoo, and you’ll end up at best unemployed, and at worse in prison. A whole lot better off just shooting the guy. Although there, your story needs to match any video that may turn up.
