Mechanical Engineering is not an easy major, or profession. I presume Bill Nye wasn't very good at it - which is why he took up the 'Bill Nye Science Clown' schtick - but I wouldn't denigrate Mechanical Engineers. This one just turned out to be an A-Hole.
Looks like Bill has decided to cash in on the enviro-kook movement, just like Gore. My memory tells me that Nye was off everyone’s radar for years. I don’t remember what brought him back, but I think he’s capitalizing on his renewed fame.
Bill Nye is a practitioner of what C.S. Lewis referred to as “scientism,” not science. In other words, he uses a buzzword, “science,” to dishonestly sell a political movement, socialism. There is no actual science involved, just an unproven assertion that his political goal is somehow supported by science. It is not.
And yet critics are accused of being paid off by big oil. Bill Nye is paid off by the idea of Big Government.
You may be thinking of FA Hayek rather than CS Lewis.
Friedrich Hayek wrote a great little book called “The Counter-Revolution of Science: studies in the abuse of reason”.
In it he describes what he calls ‘scientism’, a bastardized form of thought which imagines it uses the methodology of science in every sphere of knowledge. It can’t of course, and it runs into epistemological problems it can’t solve. Goedel’s Theorem and all that.
I wonder if Bill Nye, the worthless commie piece of crap guy, redistributed the $300,000 - $400,000 he received from his so-called dance moves on “Dancing With the Stars?”
Bill Nye need to learn about Urban Warming and start advocating to tear down liberal cities if he is so concerned...
First let’s take all of Bill Nye’s wealth and redistribute it. Then let’s ask him how that’s working for him.
It’s not a far leap to say that. We are methodology based problem solvers and use the scientific method in daily work. There’s also a lot of overlap in classes as math, chemistry, physics and in some cases biology.
Engineering to me is basically all about applied science.
Agreed.
