DAUPHIN COUNTY, PA Officer Lisa Mearkle turned herself in to state police to face a charge of criminal homicide in the killing of David Kassick. Shes a 14-year veteran of the Hummelstown Police Department.
Officer Mearkle, by all accounts, has been a distinguished member of the Hummelstown police department so this is certainly a tragedy all around. said Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico.
A tragic ending for Kassick, who was 59. Mearkle tried to pull Kassick over for an expired inspection sticker on February 2nd. He took off and she chased him to his home in south Hanover Township. She shot him with a taser and he fell to the ground, face down. She ordered him to show his hands.

This is what happens when officers are trained the way they are.
All that over an expired inspection sticker.
He was lying on the ground and she shot him twice in the back, that sounds a wee bit excessive over expired car inspection stickers to me.
i think her tasering him over expired tags was nuts. shooting is just plain wrong and pretty much murder.
women officers feel scared a lot faster than male officers and are more prone to reachcfor the gun in cases male officers wouldn’t.
Isn’t it enough that they needlessly identify the officer as a woman in the headline?
Couldn't agree more! It's terrible. This BS happens almost every day, yet we only hear about it when there's a racial angle. Then, everybody lines up like it's 1970.
I'll bet she's not convicted. DA's either over charge or just throw the cases against their LE buddies, then let the juries take the heat.
He also ran. It wasn’t just the sticker.
Well, we’ll see what happens. I would presume it likely that dispatch ran the plate, then they ran the registered owner. If the R/O was the deceased, she would have been informed of the criminal history on the guy. Her lawyer seems to allude that was the case. The guy was on Parole and had a syringe under him (trying to conceal the evidence, which accounts for the strange movements presumed to be manipulating a weapon). In the end this will not be a homicide conviction and likely an acquittal or very reduced charges.
“Needlessly”?
Women have no role in law enforcement unless they can physically cut it; if she couldn’t physically deal with an older man (the way male cops are required), then she shouldn’t have been in the patrol car.
Years ago a female cop in PA was overpowered and had her car & gun stolen; they were used to carjack a tractor trailer (and the driver was killed).
I think you are probably right about women cops. I guess she might have felt s.t.u.p.i.d. calling for back up over expired stickers.
Rules is rules.
He also ran. It wasnt just the sticker.
Exactly, and it sounds like after getting out of the car (in his driveway?) he was still avoiding the cop. When you resist a cop bad things tend to happen.
That said, shooting him in the back when he was face down was going way too far, even though it seems that this guy won’t be a loss to society. Had he just pulled over he’d have gotten a ticket that could have been resolved with no fine after getting registered and going to court with proof of such. At least that is how it works in WI. I have been pulled over for registration and guess what? They never even asked to search my truck. The drugs would not have been found, if he was legal to drive that is.
the average woman is shorter and lighter and weaker than the average man. most will feel threatened by stuff a lot faster than a man, and when they are, that means they’ll rely on the gun more often and faster than a male officer will.
“All that over an expired inspection sticker.”
He was a drug user, It’s OK.
Does anyone know if an officer is trained to move to the blind side (probably right side in most cases of a downed suspect) so that if they do have a gun and roll onto their right side so that their right hand can come up with a gun that was underneath them, will the officer be in the shooter’s blindspot?
I’ll also ask my son, a former federal police officer.
And the drugs weren't the problem, (Suboxone) other than "what's this, gotcha", rather than the "drug paraphernalia".
Brian Nichols started his murder spree by overpowering a female cop....
Insanity in the modern age knows very little bounds.
judging from the pic of “lisa” she might have been a lester at one time.
I think leading cops on a chase over expired tags is nuts...
