PARIS — As officials struggled Wednesday to explain why a jet with 150 people on board crashed in relatively clear skies, an investigator said evidence from a cockpit voice recorder indicated one pilot left the cockpit before the plane’s descent and was unable to get back in.

Yup, you’re right. Just like Egypt Air 990.
The pilot purposely crashed the Germanwing.

You need to lay some odds. At least 20 to 1 opening odds that the plane was brought down by a Muslim.

While the debris was still fluttering down the "PC Police" released a statement that there was no terrorism involved.

So, based on previous experince. that pretty well guarantees that there was.

Hearing knocks but no words??

We have a missing piece here. In fact, I think two missing pieces.

Guess they haven't reported to Obama yet for instructions.

One of the stations was asking that same question. Why NOTHING about him?

The fact we have been given zero info on the pilots suggests it would not be politically correct to know.

Besides the door lock mechanism, how would you force a lock out?

Could the pilot have locked the door per procedure then had a big medical issue, heart attack etc?

Has Valarie Jarret confirmed any of this? Susan Rice?

Drudge didn’t give the names of the pilots... Feels similar to when a newspaper doesn’t identify the race of criminal.

The remaining pilot had to FORCE the outside pilot to stay locked out. Definitely suicide. Likely Amish.

Hey Rudi - That new blonde stew just called in from the back. She needs help getting her garter belt untangled.

Thanks Mohammed, I'll go back and give her a hand.

Well, it CAN be that a pilot is locked out of the cockpit. It happened recently on a major air carrier here in the USA!
It happened on JetBlue in 2912. The co-pilot locked the Captain out because he was acting weird...
Delta Capt. locked out by a door malfunction in January of this year!
So, yes the remaining pilot can keep a pilot out and yes, doors can malfunction.
Wait for more information to come, if the powers that be will release same.

How?

I'm not a pilot, but my guess would be simple: by using a key that he has, or entering a combination that he knows.

A generic door, anywhere, can be blocked from entering by various means. You can change the lock's code, for example. Or you can use a secondary lock (a deadbolt, or a bar) from the inside. But you have to mean it - this cannot be done accidentally.

Also people are saying that a flight attendant would have to be present if one of the pilots leaves. The audio recording would have that conversation. If there is nothing but silence, it might mean that there was nobody else in the cockpit. This violation of rules could have been seen as harmless on short routes, where the whole flight takes under two hours and is routine to the crew.

Also it is possible that the terrorist (if that's the case) could have been waiting for just such a day when the other pilot leaves and all flight attendants are busy. (Not impossible, as they just reached the cruise altitude, the safety belts are off, and everyone starts asking for tea, coffee, etc.) We can't know what those jihadists are thinking just before they blow up.

In Germany it is called an “Otto Pilot.”

What I am gathering from the comments is that the cockpit has at least a couple of lock systems. The standard system would permit the pilot on the outside to gain entry on his own accord. The secondary system would require affirmative action by the pilot in the cockpit to effectively deadbolt the door so no one could get in. Obviously, this would require a deliberate act to lockout the pilot who left the cockpit. This would not have occurred if the pilot suddenly became incapacitated. Why would he deadbolt the door to exclude the pilot from gaining re-entry unless he was up to no good?

Like Jerry Seinfeld said about crash helmets for parachutists, if the chute doesn’t open, that helmet is wearing you for protection. Those phone are protected by lots of soft tissue. Flash drives inside a phone in the pocket of a human have a good chance of being readable. They just have to find them among the debris spread out around those windy hills.
