New York Times writer Helene Cooper must be posting her articles from an alternate reality. It is the only conclusion that one can reach when reading her reaction to the announcement today that Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, who was swapped last year for five Guantanamo prisoners, will be charged with desertion.
So what is a major concern for Cooper? It is her speculation as to whether Bergdahl can still get an honorable discharge if found guilty and if not, how that will affect his job opportunities. I kid you not. Try not to slap your head too hard in exasperation while reading Cooper's bizarre concern:

From the NYT’s perspective, with the exception of Obama himself, no one in the military has forwarded the goals of NYT on the War on Terror better than Bowe Bergdahl

“A complete divorce from reality” is a prerequisite for employment at the NY Slimes.
The HR Department must look for it on the resumes it receives, along with the degree from an Ivy League school.
To them, desertion is probably worthy of an HD.

Just because he went over to the enemy - and in the process got several of his fellow soldiers killed/wounded - is no reason he shouldn’t get a dishonorable discharge.
We have to do something about this tendency to judgmentalism in the military.
Desertion in the time of war and in the face of the enemy and giving aid and comfort to the enemy deserves the firing squad.
Impeached and removed Presidents, do not receive pensions.
Poor NYT writers. to print such a funny article is not very intelligent. Desertion is a dishonorable discharge.
