Armed With US Weapons, Yemen Rebels Advance On President As Saudi Arabia Prepares For War

UPDATE: PRESIDENT OF YEMEN SAID TO HAVE LEFT THE COUNTRY ON BOAT FROM ADEN, AP SAYS

Previously we reported that in the latest "coup" for US foreign policy, the US had "lost" over $500 million in weapons in Yemen, until recently an Obama administration foreign policy "success story", following the abrupt evacuation of the US embassy there, all of which ended up in local rebel and al-Qaeda hands.

It didn't take long for the local Houthi rebels to put all these weapons to good use.

Houthi forces in Yemen backed by allied army units seized a key air base on Wednesday and appeared poised to capture the southern port of Aden from defenders loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, local residents said.

As a reminder this is the second time the Yemeni president, so close to Obama, will be forced to uproot and get out of Dodge, after his prompt "evacuation" from the capital Sanaa a month ago:

The Houthis and their military allies later advanced to within 40km of the city, where Hadi has been holed up since fleeing the group's stronghold in the capital Sanaa last month.

Yemen's slide toward civil war has made the country a crucial front in mostly Sunni Saudi Arabia's rivalry with Iran, which Riyadh accuses of sowing sectarian strife through its support for the Houthis.

Sunni Arab monarchies around Yemen have condemned the Houthi takeover as a coup and have mooted a military intervention in favor of Hadi in recent days.

The situation in Yemen is "fluid" but not looking good for the status quo: in Aden, heavy traffic clogged Aden as parents brought schoolchildren home and public sector employees obeyed orders to leave work. Eyewitnesses said pro-Hadi militiamen and tribal gunmen were out in force throughout the city

Just another "Fantastic Obama Foreign Policy Success!(tm)"

Only a "RACIST" or a "CRAZY PERSON!" would dare to think or say otherwise.

Obama lost Yemen. Why has he and the US not defended our ally? Instead he cowardly abandoned the country and ran.

Iranian backed rebels about to take over the US allied country. No help from the US to fight back. American weapons being used to topple the government. Sounds like another Obama plan coming together.

fast and furious was a dry run for the 500 million free and farcical fiasco. Deduct it from the future administration vacation budget.

It is Saudi that is keeping the militant muslims from succeeding in the litter box. Obama needs a Saudi defeat for his muslim and Iranian pals to succeed.

The Saudis must be feeling a lot like the Israelis - surrounded by enemies.

The new alliance will be Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt against Iran.

Right.... trying to expand the caliphate ... maybe they want their hands on Mecca for good and all.

Then they’ll have ALL Muslims by the throat

If I were you I would count the countries from North Africa to Iran that are falling apart. Remember Saudi Arabia is the short term prize.

Yup, and Israel is the only military power in the region that could interfere with this plan.

Question for WH spokesclown:

“It is reported that nearly $500,000,000.00 of weapons and arms have fallen into the hands of radicalized rebels in Yemen. How many American Soldiers and Citizens will die as a result of these arms falling in to the wrong hands? How stupid does the President feel about calling Yemen a success?”

They’d be carrying the wrecked remains of their media career out of the office by the end of the day...
