It took over 36 hours to tell us that TWO Americans were aboard. They knew about all the high school kids, the babies, etc......
BUT it took an awfully long time to tell us 2 Americans were on that plane, and I wonder how long it will take to ID those 2????

Via Reuters: A third US citizen was on board the Germanwings flight that crashed in the French Alps this week, the US State Department said on Wednesday.
Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said officials have confirmed that Americans Yvonne Selke and her daughter, Emily, were among those killed in the crash. Psaki said the third US citizen is not being named at this time.
That looks like some real impact alright!

You can buy a general aviation battery powered device for about $3000 with gps altitude and position, artificial horizon, weather, speed, etc. It also stores airport data. There is enough information on it to fly the airplane under instrument conditions after catastrophic power failures. You don’t need power to determine altitude (air pressure), anyway. It would be really surprising to me if commercial airplanes don’t have similar devices. If nothing else, they can use it until they deploy auxiliary power devices.
I am not a licensed pilot, but scuttlebutt from pilots I know, says half of the jokers piloting commercial, never really learned how to fly a plane, let alone think through an emergency to a successful alternate solution....not trying to be simple minded. I don’t have enough experience to say much more. Thanks for your input.
