PARIS Rescuers resumed the difficult task of searching for the 150 victims of a deadly plane crash in the French Alps, as the search for clues was dealt a setback Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators said they had so far been unable to retrieve any data from the planes cockpit voice recorder, and the inquiry has been hampered further, an official said, by the discovery that the second black box, which was found on Wednesday, was severely damaged, and its memory card dislodged and missing.

Interesting development.
memory card missing from black box?
did they but it at Target
I was under the impression that those boxes were BUILT to withstand terrible impacts...
Perhaps it was a cheap chinese knockoff....
If a memory card was actually supposed to be there, maybe it was never installed for some reason.
I would be combing the area for cellphones and look at recordings on them. Someone in the passenger compartment described that final six minutes.
Or,they got it working and found a lot of Allah Akbars.
Or a more than terrible impact...
If the data recorders didn’t survive intact you probably not going to find cell phones that can have data extracted.
According to the news, it was inspected the day before. Could it have been tampered?
That aircraft was at max speed at impact. 8 minutes of dive be for impact.
Highly possible.
Starting to stink bigtime.
Anybody “important” on that flight?
re: “unable to retrieve any data from the planes cockpit voice recorder”
The full article sheds no further light on whether the memory can’t be accessed, or there’s no data there. The NYT, with its usual incompetence, didn’t even ask for clarification.
The article doesn’t say, but I believe these are French investigators. If so, they probably don’t have enough experience on-hand in dealing with accidents and data retrieval.
My .02Cents....
1. Catastrophic power failure
2. They had no idea what their altitude was...not flying vfr.
3. They augered in at flight speed...accounts for the debris field and box damage.
Reports are that this was actually the 3rd flight after the maintenance inspection.
I get the sense that it wasnt an accidental Impact
nothing to see here folks just some Random Jihad...
given the level of “professional” competence that one is becoming ever more accustomed to these days...that certainly a possibility
