Donald Trump Raises Questions About Ted Cruz's Canadian Birth
NewsMax ^ | 03/23/2015

Donald Trump remains interested in birth certificates.

The reality television host, real estate magnate, and serial almost-presidential candidate who repeatedly demanded that President Barack Obama produce proof that he was born in Hawaii, turned his attention to Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday. In an interview with MyFoxNY, Trump said that Cruz's birthplace, Canada, could be a problem for the Texan's presidential bid.

“Well he’s got, you know, a hurdle that nobody else seems to have at this moment," said Trump. "It’s a hurdle and somebody could certainly look at it very seriously. He was born in Canada … if you know … and when we all studied our history lessons … you’re supposed to be born in this country, so I just don’t know how the courts would rule on it. But it’s an additional hurdle that he has that no one else seems to have."

Unlike Trump, most legal scholars and media outlets that have considered whether Cruz's birthplace represents a "hurdle" to his presidential aspirations have concluded that it does not.

It's not the first time that Trump has questioned whether being born in Canada precludes the senator from running for president. In a 2013 interview with ABC's Jonathan Karl, Trump responded to the question of whether Cruz was eligible to run by saying, "Perhaps not." (The exchange comes at the 2 minute mark in the video.)

Obama got away with being ineligible because the GOP was afraid of being called racist by the media. Ted Cruz doesn’t have that luxury.

Cruz is aware that he will have enemies on all four sides and he’s moving forward anyway. He probably has looked at his candidacy and thinks he’s eligible.

There is nobody I like more than Ted Cruz. But he is NOT a natural born Citizen. He would make a great attorney general.

Cruz knows all about Natural Law. I think he is running to expose Obama as ineligible.

My local news (liberal biased) here in Florida is already running stories about Cruz and eligibility.

But, the whiners seem to never consider the truth - Cruz’s mother WAS A LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZEN. That automatically makes him a “natural born citizen”.

The fact that he was born in Canada is a non-entity. He could have been born to his mother in any other country in the world, and he would still be a US CITIZEN. And, while he did have DUAL-Citizenship with Canada (because that country has to register the birth) - Cruz has already renounced his Canadian portion.

Proving that Trump doesn’t know SQUAT!

And, once again, Jim Robinson has said - it’s a closed issue on FR.

ODimwit was eligible and Cruz is eligible. This is a ridiculous, absurd issue for either.

I wrote that I would be supporting Cruz and one of them said he wouldn't vote if Cruz was the candidate to protect the Constitution.

Let that sink in a minute while considering Obama.

Note the reference to Natural Law in the first sentence of our Declaration of Independence.

The Supreme Court of the United States has never applied the term “natural born citizen” to any other category than “those born in the country of parents who are citizens thereof”.

Citizenship Terms Used in the U.S. Constitution - The 5 Terms Defined & Some Legal Reference to Same

"The citizenship of no man could be previous to the declaration of independence, and, as a natural right, belongs to none but those who have been born of citizens since the 4th of July, 1776."....David Ramsay, 1789.

My understanding is that the bulk of legal scholars believe Cruz is eligible.

Your post makes a lot of sense. Based on the position of those who say he is ineligible because he was born in Canada, anyone whose mother may have been out of the country when they were born would not be U.S. citizens. Ridiculous.

And the bulk of scientists believe in global warming.

Think for yourself.

Trump is so light weight in his brain, it should be floating in air. He knows nothing of who is a natural born citizen and who is not. Cruz’s mom was an American citizen, so Cruz is a natural born citizen. He didn’t have to go through naturalization to be a citizen - those who have to go through the naturalization process are not natural born. It’s just not complicated.

I was among te early “birthers” but walked away from the issue when it became apparent that we were being flooded with trolls who seemed to want to use the issue to manipulate.

I think we’ll be seeing a lot of them returning to “stand on principle”.
