Republicans rally to Scott Walker’s call, believing he’s a scrappy survivor
Washington Post ^ | Mr. 22, 2015 | Phillip Rucker

COLUMBIA, S.C. — When Jim Ulmer came to see Scott Walker here last week, he was transfixed. “He’s the little engine that could,” Ulmer said, describing the Wisconsin governor who successfully battled labor unions and has rocketed to the front of the Republican presidential race.

“He has guts,” said Ulmer, 52, Republican Party chairman in rural Orangeburg County. “The people of America are looking for another Ronald Reagan, someone we can believe in, someone who will keep freedom safe. Walker could be it.”

Really great article about Walker, from the WAPO of all places.

If Walker or perhaps Cruz is not on the ballot in ‘16, the Repubs can kiss their little “liberal lite” *sses goodbye.

I really like Cruz, but am keeping an open mind about Walker.

If Bush wins the nomination then I will finally join the legion of conservatives who refused to vote in 2008 and 2012.

‘scrappy survivor’ implies Tramp, the dog living by his wits and ignoring the rules.

Quite the contrary. Walker is the one who won by the rules, plays by the rules and has defeated and enraged the left by doing so even as the left do their usual end-run around the rules (John Doe lawsuits etc.).

No offense to the OP or anyone here but the WaPo’s condescension is never complimentary even when it sounds like it.

WaPo will play Walker off against Cruz to the benefit of Jeb. Its part of the game.

Pick a side is the name of the game. Cruz is my pick, the best man for the job period. Second would be Rand Paul, if neither one makes it to the fall election, I will leave my ballot blank. Walker is just a maybe as of now, he could earn my vote though.

Exactly.

As we see, WaPo gives Walker a positive article the day Cruz announces.

This side game does seem to work negatively for the more conservative candidates in the field. The strategy here is for conservatives not to run against each other, but against the “Jeb Bush/Hillary Clinton” ticket, as they would make a better combination teamed up together than as opposing candidates.

The may should themselves in the foot by doing so. Ted Cruz remains my first choice, far and away. But by the time the Pennsylvania primary rolls around in late April, we are lucky if it is down to two candidates instead of one.

Nobody else even comes close to Scott Walker as #2 on my list except, maybe, Ben Carson. And, as much as I like Ben, he's unlikely to make it past Iowa or New Hampshire.

I love the things Ted Cruz says, the things he believes in, but am loath to vote for a senator for the office of president.

In my ideal world, Scott Walker is president and Ted Cruz is senate majority leader.

Walker will have to convince us that his White House road conversion to supporting the rule of law and opposing amnesty for fraudulently documented foreigners is genuine.
He has been all over the place previously and he will have to spell out what he would intend to do with the border and the 30 million illegal aliens who broke into our country.

Walker is one of a few that don’t let the left set the premises that they have to defend.

Walker, and few others, attack the left’s premises and then impugn their motives for assuming the premise.

That’s what we need.

Another conservative victory for governor Scott Walker

Scott Walker has defeated democrats/communists more than anyone in history and he’s just getting started. He is the most impressive politician I’ve seen

Scott Walker has defeated democrats more than anyone to pass conservative laws, balance the budget, cut taxes, and turn a huge deficit into a surplus. Walker’s record is unmatched! The rest of those running for president are either marxists or just talkers. Actions and Results , a conservative record as governor are what matter. Talk means nothing

What has Cruz done politically ?

He was the youngest and then longest serving Solicitor General in Texas history (arguing cases on behalf of Texas before the U.S. Supreme Court for over 5 years).

He then went on to defeat the very entrenched, guaranteed to win establishment GOPe candidate for U.S. Senate in the Republican primary, getting almost 60% of the vote against Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst.

He then beat the Democrat candidate by 15 points (56% to 41%) in the general election.

I am not at all denigrating Scott Walker's political accomplishments. His ability to seriously piss off and then defeat Democrats in a previously Democrat controlled state is what I like best about him. That is why I am keeping an open mind.

I also like that both Walker and Cruz have so far followed Reagan's 11th Commandment when asked about each other. I hope that every conservative candidate in the GOP primaries will campaign as if their only opponents are Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton.

I think either President Walker or President Cruz should name Jeb Bush to be the new Ambassador to Hungary. He is just as qualified as the soap opera producer that Obama appointed. Plus it would keep in out of the country.

No I mean when has Cruz beaten democrats.

Obama is regulating the Internet with socialist/Soros net neutratlity laws . Where is cruz and others? what have Cruz or anyone done to stop obama and democrats? what bill has he passed. why hasn't he tried to impeach Obama or stop his unconstitutional executive power grabs on Amnesty , Internet, IRS oppressing conservatives, ben ghazi, solyindra etc . I would call for this communist donkey Obama’s resignation and impeachment . so many of our so called conservative leaders don't even mention any of the little of what I wrote much less DO ANYThiNG to stop it.

anyone can pay lip services, pander or give speaches and many do like Rush , Levin, Cruz , Savage, Palin etc. but none have done anything nor even said what I just wrote off the top of my head. no wonder Obama is destroying the country . there is no opposition . Walker at leas in his province of his state has defeated democrats. if this were a football game it would be Walker 100 democrats 0. Obama 100 cruz et al 0.

I'm tired of words, speeches and I'm even more sick of democrats taking away our rights and freedom and prosperity. I want victories against the communists. look at the records. It's there. Walker is the only one who has repeatedly defeated democrats to pass conservative laws. Walker is the only hope we have the record speaks for itself
