Stephen King fires back after Maine governor accused him of fleeing to avoid state income taxes

A fierce row has broken out between Stephen King and Maine Governor Paul LePage after the governor claimed that the author doesn't pay state income taxes and has moved away from the state. King immediately shot back that LePage should 'man up and apologize' for the comments because he still resides in Maine. LePage's comments came during his weekly radio address when he argued that states without an income tax, like Florida, have lured away Maine residents, including King.

No... those that are fleeing to FL are the NY/NJ Joose that were used to paying insane property taxes.

they'll soon have an income *and* a sales tax.

Not if i have anything to say about it. The real problem is the Republican party giving us candidates like Scott (I Hate The Tea Partiers) Brown. If we could have someone to vote for that had the same values that 80% of the state has they would get those votes.

Most of NH still takes “Live Free or die” quite seriously

Are you kidding? The Yankees have been going to Florida for spring training for close to a hundred years. Where else would they go? The Catskills?

The republicans won control of the Maine Senate last November.

The GOP picked up 10 seats in the Maine House, but the democrats are still in control of that legislative body, unfortunately.

You’re right about LePage....he drives the liberals absolutely nuts; then again, they were crazy already.

It's home. He was born there and has almost all his life there. Why is that so hard to understand?

Bully for him, I say. For my own part, however, I don't need to be a resident of any state that must financially depend on me to the same extent that Maine apparently depends on Stephen King. Maybe it's just that I need less government than Stephen King. All I know is if there is ever a time when my state comes to me looking for $1.4 MM in taxes, it will be time to start stringing up bureaucrats.

I like the governor, so hopefully he learns THE RIGHT LESSON from this - which should be to ask why his state HAS an income tax.

Leftist non profits are the bread and butter of maine. All need to be taxed along with the Foundations that people like Stephen King start to shield monies and give their kids jobs.

Big successful corporations and sub corporations like Maine Medical center which owns some of the most prime and successful real estate in Southern Maine and shields itself through non profit status need to pay their fair share. These are for profit big businesses who shield themselves from taxes though the non profit shield.

The man is worth north of $400 million. He takes the 1.4 and writes off the money from the federal tax bite.He makes millions of dollars a year in residuals alone. I am certain he has a very good tax advisers and it balances out. Besides he likes where he lives.

The street front is the main house. The building behind
that is the servants quarters and the two building behind
that is the chauffeurs quarters and garage.

The lone building at the top is the guest house. The white
house across the street is where the devil lives and the
house at the bottom is the whorehouse.

King is a whack job , paying over a million dollars a year to live in Maine?

Maine is where half of his stories are based. he probably doesn't want to mess with the formula.

It's not the spring training that has changed. It's the Yankees' training facility in Tampa that is used during the season.

Whenever a Yankee player is injured, the first thing you notice is that they have a press release announcing that the player has been sent to Tampa for a rehabilitation assignment. I have long suspected that this is intended to help the player avoid paying New York taxes while he is injured. If he is on a rehab assignment in Florida he is technically "working" down there for those days/weeks, so he probably doesn't have to report that portion of his income in New York.

I think Paul was trying to make a point about getting rid of the income tax. I believe, Paul should apologize. Steven King is a liberal and he hates LaPage and the 'damage cause by him and the Republicans of Maine.'

Steven King campaigned against Paul. He wanted Michaud the gay to be elected.

The Gov should correct his statement and announce 100% State income tax relief to every Maine resident except Steven King. He demanded to be taxed more....give it to him. :)

True, when my parents retired they had a summer place in Maine, a house in Florida and the house I grew up in in CT. They didn’t want the CT house so they sold it. Maine was on a lake and we used it year around.
