"Hey handicap" letter stuns, outrages disabled Ohio woman
Fox Tampa Bay ^ | 3/19/15 | Anonymous

When Ashley Brady spotted a car parked in a handicap parking spot that she had the right to, she left a note. That driver returned with an outrageous note of their own.

The 26-year-old Miamisburg, Ohio woman lost her leg in an accident last year. She fought hard for a handicap parking space at her apartment complex so when someone was parked there, she let them know.

She said she left a stern letter under the windshield of the car and thought it was over. That was until her not-so-friendly neighbor responded with a note of her own.

"It says 'Hey handicap! First, never place your hands on my car again! Second, honey you ain't the only one with "struggles." so go cry your struggles to someone who cares cause I'm walking away with both mine!" Brady said.

She said struggled through the ice and snow multiple times and last Thursday she finally got her spot. Two days later, her neighbor was parked there and she left her note. She said she left the neighbor's note a few times over and she tried to process it. Her sister posted her story online and found out she's not alone.

"I got a lot of feedback online from a lot of other amputees who have been in similar situations, you're not just going to get what you want by being bullying," Brady said. "She told me to cry to someone who cares, so I went to the internet and it turns out a lot of people care."

The Amputee Coalition of America found the letter and posted it, prompting the letter to take off.

She filed a complaint with police and is working to meet with the apartment complex's management team.

I would agree that the jackass who wrote the letter has "struggles" too. And I'd say, if its letter is any judge, they start with total ignorance of basic grammar.

I see from the video that the parking spot is properly, legally placarded. The offender, in addition to needing a serious attitude adjustment, doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

Not only is the letter writer ignorant but the writer of the article is also...It’s way over my head.

The letter almost sounds like it was written by someone in the welfare entitlement class who are classless self-entitled dolts.

When ever I see someone park in a Handicap spot without a placard or plate I feel very angry. Next time I see someone and if they are getting in / out of the car i may just yell at them.

Sounds like two self-important egotists in a pissing contest.

“I am too more handicapped than you”.

Who cares?

Clearly the neighbor is in the wrong legally as well as being truly evil and hopefully will pay dearly for both.

Beyond that - did someone actually get paid to write this incoherent drivel?

Somebody had to ...

And the offender really needs to be horsewhipped.

Why didn’t the woman simply photograph the offending car (plates and all) in her spot and deliver it to the apartment leasing office?

Some even have a tow number at the ready (posted) for people who park in other peoples’ reserved spots.

Squabbling with neighbors rarely results in positive change.

Yep, this is an issue for management, and maybe the police if it continues.

I’d get a screwdriver and put a few nice gouges in the neighbor’s car’s paint.

My Dad used to say, don’t get mad, get even.

She fought hard for a handicap parking space at her apartment complex so when someone was parked there, she let them know.

I am puzzled by the "she fought hard" bit. Most apartment complexes have handicap spots and those that don't rarely kick up a fuss about designating a spot for someone with a visible handicap.

Which offender - the one that parked wrongfully, or the writer of the article?

Maybe both. Or maybe I just like to wield a horsewhip.

Properly done, the horsewhip never has to actually touch the recipient, but the crack of a whip sets up supersonic vibrations. Sure keeps the horse disciplined.

Here in CA, it’s a $250 fine if you do not have a handicap card hanging from your inside mirror; or you have a license plate which has the handicap logo.

If there were any fines involved - then perhaps the violators would not be so eager to park there. But, I thought this was a federal fine; so it should be the same all over the country.

Me, too, but neither you or I have any authority to correct the problem. This could get us into a lot of trouble. We need to appeal this to the person who is truly offended--either the disabled person or the law who put the sign up. I don't carry a CDW just to get in a squabble like that that might go wrong.

Let me advise you: Don't take up somebody else's offenses unless it's a life-or-desth issue.

With sincere regard --

Please tell me where in Ohio this complex is so I can find the azzwipes car, put my hands all over it and wait for the jerk to come out and complain. I would LOVE to “handicap” the sucker.

When I see someone without a visible handicap and no handicap placard on their car, I’ve been known to walk up close to them and count ‘one, two’ while distinctly pointing at each arm, then repeat while pointing at each leg and pointing to the handicapped parking sign. If that does not result in action on the part of the driver, I jot down the license plate and male and model oif car, then call city parking control.

Most drivers grumble but move, though several have suggested, using their middle finger, that I am #1! How appreciative of them, especially when parking control provides them with an invitation to pay a large sum of money to the city for the ‘privilege of parking in a handicapped zone without a placard!
