Netanyahu Flip Flop: I Want a Two-State Solution [Israel]

Days after vowing not to establish a Palestinian state, Netanyahu says something else in his first post-election interview.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has retracted his pre-election statements, according to which he would not allow a Palestinian state to be established.

"I don't want a one-state solution. I want a sustainable, peaceful two-state solution," Netanyahu said Thursday in an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell. "I haven't changed my policy."

Netanyahu said his earlier comments were a reflection of changing conditions on the Palestinian side, pointing to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's pact to form a unity government with Hamas, which Israel, the U.S. and most European countries consider a terrorist organization.

"I'm talking about what is achievable and what is not achievable," Netanyahu said Thursday, insisting that he would support a demilitarized Palestinian state under a plan that would ensure Israel's security.

I thought the left loved “evolving views.”

Quote of the day...!

Well, for one thing, the “political realities” of a situation dictate how someone is able to respond to something.

Now, the Oslo Accords have been a continuing process for 20 years, with many intervening agreements, with the Palestinian Authority in place (and with Israel’s help) and Netanyahu has worked towards a Palestinian State since he’s been Prime Minister. He said he would go anywhere, at any time and meet with anyone to form a Palestinian State. He knows that the time is running out for Israel to have the advantage over this thing. That’s been long-standing for Netanyahu.

AND ... he knows that to reject the Oslo Accords and reject a Palestinian State would bring down the wrath of the world upon Israel for doing so.

ALL THAT tells me that Netanyahu is going to continue on his same course as before. He’s definitely going to do everything he can to protect Israel’s security in the matter, but he’s going to proceed.

BUT ... for him to “proceed” ... he HAS TO WIN ... you see ... :-) ...

Netanyahu’s position that you see here is the same as it was a year ago, two years ago and even longer. It has evolved since the mid-90s but not so in his present terms as Prime Minister, in regards to a two-state solution.

He wants a peaceful, sustainable two-state solution, which is just like saying it will never happen.

Just like the Republicans do in this country, conservative voters were scared by the prospect of a Labour Party government being extreme and wanting to cut deals with Israel’s enemies.

Fear is always a tactic used by big party Uniparties to woo their base voters with the other party being portrayed as the “far left” or “far right”.

Now we will find out how “tough” and “conservative” Bibi is, especially with Iran.

There will never be more favorable terms for the Jews. The only acceptable terms for the Palestinians and their terrorist backers is all the Jews dead.

Eh. Cats kick the kitty litter out of the box, dogs lick themselves in public, and politicians flip-flop. It’s the nature of the beast.

The more favorable conditions are the ones that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined as requirements for an agreement ...

Sounds good ... Netanyahu maintains the same position he’s ALWAYS HAD with negotiating with the PA for forming a Palestinian State. As I suspected and have known from before, Netanyahu’s position on that is reasonable and fair ... and HAS NOT CHANGED!

And on the issue of ARABS In Israel, he made clear what his position HAS ALWAYS BEEN with Israeli Arab Citizens ... they have full rights of any citizen and they will be helped by various social programs as he has always done, and they will NOT be discriminated against. They are FULLY INTEGRATED into Israeli society!

BOTH of those things sounds EXACTLY like the Netanyahu from before and extremely fair. Israel should be EXTREMELY PROUD of Netanyahu as their Prime Minister!

This should surprise no one. That a two state solution is impossible in the present environment should be obvious to anyone. I'd add the lack of a legitimate, elected palestinian government. Related threads

"....Palestinian refugee camps...."

About a year ago, photos were circulating on the net showing how Palestinians live in the Gaza strip. They depicted the tall, beautiful, utile office buildings, modern shopping malls, entertainment areas, restaurants, schools, infrastructure, etc. that are to be found in today's urban Palestine.

Nighttime photos show scenes that resemble busy street panoramas in Las Vegas, New York City, Chicago, etc.....electrified and rife with neon advertising signs flashing away.

Too many folks think that the put-upon Palestinians are living like undernourished animals in rubbled ghettos, semi-destroyed cement-block hovels, disease-ridden refugee tent-cities/camps.....and in over-crowded, pathetic slums.

I sure wish someone who has these photos could post them on this thread....real eye-openers to a lot of Palestine pity-partyers throughout the world and in the UN.

The Palestinians and Arab nations will never agree until Israel agrees to 1967 borders..and that’s not going to happen ever.

The Six Day War was an extraordinary defeat for the Arab Nation Alliance....even to the point they could not believe Israel pulled it off,...not only in defeating their army’s but in gaining the lands and Jerusalem.... so they agreed together to say it was the US and Britain that helped Israel by firing from the sea..in order to save what little face they could, and they did so on public TV. ( That conversation was tapped BTW and interesting to hear>)

Needless to say the Arab leaders got some real nasty calls from both the US and Britain... livid that they lied so because neither US nor Britain was close enough to even do that.

So they’re never going to settle....Land for Peace has never worked and won’t until Israel is pushed into the Sea as far as the Arabs and Islamists are concerned. Call it two state solution or whatever..it is still Land for Peace and will never work long term....nor will it ever.
