Netanyahu Flip Flop: I Want a Two-State Solution [Israel]

Days after vowing not to establish a Palestinian state, Netanyahu says something else in his first post-election interview.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has retracted his pre-election statements, according to which he would not allow a Palestinian state to be established.

"I don't want a one-state solution. I want a sustainable, peaceful two-state solution," Netanyahu said Thursday in an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell. "I haven't changed my policy."

Netanyahu said his earlier comments were a reflection of changing conditions on the Palestinian side, pointing to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's pact to form a unity government with Hamas, which Israel, the U.S. and most European countries consider a terrorist organization.

"I'm talking about what is achievable and what is not achievable," Netanyahu said Thursday, insisting that he would support a demilitarized Palestinian state under a plan that would ensure Israel's security.

My feeling is that if there was to be a Palestinian state (and I hope one never exists), why not give them the Sinai?

With enough money and effort, parts of the Sinai can be made fertile for plants/fruits and enough infrastructure could be built so that industries could forseeable pop up.

There’s plenty of room for housing. The Palestinians wouldn’t need to be in small refugee camps anymore.

But yet it’s a pipe dream. The Palestinians would never go for it. Look what they did when the Jewish settlers pulled out of Gaza? They trashed the businesses and greenhouses. They could have used ‘em to make money and employ people - but instead they trashed everything.

Maybe some day the Palestinians will truly realize that Israel is not going anywhere and they should take the best deal they can get.

As I understood, he didn’t flip flip, the media was lying about what he said so it look like he changed his view

You misunderstand.

ns would have to agree to the right of Israel to exist. And that isn’t going to happen.

A two state solution is valid for one reason only. When the Palestinian terrorists attack now, there is no state sponsor to retaliate against. Give ‘em a state, recognize it, and stipulate that any terror from their people will be considered state sponsored. Then follow words with action, destroying the state and killing all its leadership.

They should just rename Jordan as Palestine, and let the Palestinians all move there and be citizens of Palestine.

But nobody in the Arab world really wants Palestinians. They seem to cause problems wherever they go, and in turn, they are used and abused as cheap labor or domestic help in places like Kuwait, etc.

...a Palestinian State will be imposed from the outside.

By whom, the UN? Those pretty blue helmets make excellent targets! My money's on the Israelis.

LOL ... people like you give a bad name to “politicians” ... :-) ...

Let’s get real here. I know what he said, but even then, I knew he wasn’t going to hold to it. It’s just the nature of politics. People should just GET OVER IT!

If you don’t like politics, don’t read about it and don’t discuss it ... :-) ...

The problem is not that Israel doesn’t want a 2-state solution, the problem is that Hamas wants a one state solution: A Palestinian state with all the Jews pushed into the ocean.

The Anti-Christ ... as the Bible says ... :-) ...

But before that happens, things can get pretty bad for Israel, in the meantime, with sanctions. Israel won’t disappear, but it will be harmed badly, if it goes that way.

I don’t believe it will go that way, because at the first sign of sanctions showing up on Israel, whatever government in power in Israel, at the time, would be thrown out of power by the people of Israel. The next government put in by the people of Israel would be tasked to repairing the da,age and getting the sanctions off.

Benjamin Netanyahu has stated a paradox and describes an oxymoron. The two words modifying “two-state solution”, peaceful and sustainable, are conditions impossible to achieve in relation to that ragtag conglomerate of refugees called “Palestinians”.

These people are descendants of Egyptians, Jordanians, Syrians, and Saudi Arabians, whose parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were exiled from their country of birth. The have no notion of a cultural paradigm, or anything that unites them, other than a hatred for Jews.

Even if, by some vast removal of the Jews, they were free to then occupy the territory of what is now Israel, within a decade, the entire locality would resemble the Gaza Strip, and have absolutely no economic basis for their existence.

But it would be a great place to export terrorism and unrest to the remainder of the world.

The majority of people in Israel do actually support a two-state solution. Of course, they’re also going to want Israel to maintain its security in the process, but the Two-State Solution is supported.

Poll: Most Israelis, Palestinians support 2-state solution
http://www.timesofisrael.com/poll-most-israelis-palestinians-support-2-state-solution/

majority of both Israelis and Palestinians support a peace agreement based on the two-state solution formula, a Hebrew University poll found, though many respondents reported that they were skeptical as to the sustainability of such an agreement in the long term.

The study, conducted jointly by the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah, found that 63 percent of Israelis and 53% of Palestinians support the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, the university said in a statement Tuesday.

ALSO REMEMBER ... that 20% of the population of Israel are ARABS and are ALSO CITIZENS of Israel and voters.

That’s what Israel does with Hamas right now ... as Israel is treating that as a “state” with Hamas being the government. What you see in Gaza is an example of how Israel would act and react to a neighboring STATE!

You’re exactly right ... the “wink, wink” won’t last forever. It’s already been TWENTY YEARS and the Western nations are getting quite tired as it is, now.

At some point it’s going to be settled, as an issue, and Israel knows that too. They also know that if they “get ahead of it” that Israel will get more favorable terms.

Okay, great. So how do you know what to believe from this man and what to ignore? Inquiring minds want to know--especially since the five permanent members of the UN Security Council are asking themselves this very question.

My question is serious because the P5 is inching toward a UN Resolution on a Palestinian State. And for the first time, this may be a unanimous vote. So help me out here--Was Mr. Netanyahu lying then or is he lying now?

Thanks.
