A key Oregon legislator says he is finishing work on a bill to expand background checks to almost all gun transactions in Oregon.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene, said the bill will include provisions affecting people with mental health issues and for those who fail background checks.

The legislation is being closely watched by both advocates and opponents of gun control. It also will provide another test for the strengthened Democratic majority in the Legislature.

"Did you hand someone a gun?" Like your friends to the north, the bloomin idjits are more than likely behind this push. They're pushing it in NV and the initiative WILL be on the 2016 ballot for the IPOS/SPOS/LPOS to vote on since it will keep bad guys from ever, ever, ever getting a gun if passed. Oh, and it will bring an end to ALL domestic violence too. And your car will always stay clean and you'll have lifetime tires too. Yeah. Right.

While some of the backers and almost all of the "moms" who back this are truly stupid enough to believe this, the main driving force is those statists who want to remove the ability of the citizenry to effectively resist the government. This explains why police are always in favor of gun control.

WHAT??? You mean that bloomers and the mommies would, uh, say things that aren’t true? LOL! Like I said IPOS/SPOS/LPOS buy the line every time. That’s how they managed to get twice the required signatures for their petition here in NV. So, it WILL be on the ‘16 ballot with truck loads of $$$$ to push the idjits to vote for it.

The ‘GunSense’ morons pushed hard in VT this year, but the bill for background checks on all transfers didn’t make it out of committee. When that happened, they moved to plan ‘B’ and accused opponents of harassment, intimidation and worse. They’ll be back again and again, so we’ll need to be better prepared for their aggressiveness.

Check out the GOA-type Oregon Firearms Federation website, even if you aren't in Oregon. For a few bucks you can join them (this AZ resident did). In any event, sign up for their very informative newsletters. They are taking the county by county approach in fighting this. Dunno if it would be of help in other states, but is is always helpful to see how others handle the problem.

As I've thumped the tub here before, my approach would be to propose a background check without the 4473 link - just call in to NICS or perhaps the State Police and give them the buyer's ID. Is he on the list? "No"? take the money, give the guy the firearm - "Yes"? "See ya". There are far too many Gruberized voters who will swallow Bloomberg's lies and if we don't propose our own, we will lose.

If nothing else, whenever you can, ask any proponent/backer of these "background checks" why a person can buy two or three firearms at one time and have to pass only one BC check, but still has to fill out a 4473 for each gun (registration). And, carry around a 4473 in your pocket and ask them to fill it out. (I changed a few minds that way - those that weren't ideologues.)

Yep. Here in WA I can’t legally let my son shoot my shotgun at the trap range. Of course nobody cares. Until they want to.
