As ratings plunge, MSNBC faces shakeup
Politico ^ | March 19, 2015 | Dylan Byers

It would be hard to imagine a news event better tailored to MSNBC’s Venn diagram of “lean forward” liberals and “place for politics” political junkies. Yet when Hillary Clinton, the Democrats’ presumptive 2016 presidential nominee, held a news conference about her private email use last week — a media frenzy that functioned, albeit inadvertently, as the informal launch to her highly anticipated campaign — less than 13 percent of the total cable news audience was tuned to the network.

The low turnout wasn’t a fluke: Year-to-date, MSNBC’s daytime viewership is down 21 percent overall and 41 percent in the coveted 25-to-54 year-old demographic, putting it in fourth place behind Fox News, CNN and CNN’s sister network HLN. Its prime-time ratings are down 24 percent and 42 percent, respectively. In both daytime and prime time, MSNBC is bringing in its smallest share of the demo since 2005, the year before Keith Olbermann’s scorched-earth admonitions of the Bush administration ushered in the current era of Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton.

*

The extent of that change could be vast: In the months ahead, MSNBC is likely to shake up the bulk of its programming, moving some shows and canceling others, high-level sources at NBCUniversal told POLITICO. With few exceptions — notably “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “Morning Joe” — every program is at risk of being moved or cancelled, those sources said. “All In with Chris Hayes,” a ratings suck that currently occupies the 8 p.m. time slot, will almost certainly be replaced. Network execs are also considering moving some weekday shows, like “Politics Nation with Al Sharpton,” to weekends.

Hmmm...sounds like a veiled plea to bring back Olbermann.

Seriously, this station hasn't been watchable for at least 15 years. Even the president of the network has said MSNBC is not the station to go to for breaking news. It's not that the country has turned from liberalism...there are plenty (i.e. too many) liberals out there. By being so partisan they forfeited any claim of credibility. Their anchors are a joke and the guests are snarky liberals mindlessly repeating progressive talking points. To make matters worse, the weekends are when they let out the real crazies. Their weekends are embarrassingly bad.

However, I am optimistic because this type of fake journalism has been rejected by the American public as evidenced by their dismal ratings. Comcast is not a stupid company and they will trim their loses by either eliminating MSNBC or radically reform it.

“Plunge” to where? When you’re already at the bottom of the barrel, there really isn’t anywhere you can “plunge” to.

How about they just die already? The last thing this nation needs is another left wing propaganda outlet.

“Without Bush in the White House and the spectacle of watching their heads explode very evening, it’s just no fun anymore.

So true. I guess I wasn’t the only one. Olberman was the best for watching meltdowns. Sgt. Schultz can be funny too but he won’t get rolling again until he can bash Walker. The other ones just tick me off, unwatchable.

Public Policy Polling finds that MSNBC is now America’s least trusted news source, tied with its parent NBC and–wait for it!–Comedy Central. PPP asked respondents which network they trust the most. The results:

Fox News: 35%
PBS: 14%
ABC News: 11%
CNN: 9%
CBS News: 6%
NBC News: 3%
Comedy Central: 3%
MSNBC: 3%

Only if you lack imagination.

How about: "Communist Party USA endorses Obama re-election".

Or: "California university group rejects student board appointment - no Jews need apply".

Just replace everything with “Caught on Camera” and “Lockup” and their ratings will soar.

Fox hasn’t been ‘right’ since Brit Hume was doing ‘Fox News Sunday’.

Fox has went out of it’s way to hire a bunch or liberal loon cast offs from the likes of CNN and PMSNBC. They think presenting these goobers makes them look more fair and balanced when in reality it drags them down and makes them look more like CNN and PMSNBC. Hey Ailes there is a reason all these leftist are no longer working for CNN, PMSNBC and the other state run media, get the hint!

Is MSNBC still on the air? I thought it went off the air years ago.

I’m betting on Sharpton to Fox News as part of FNC’s ongoing lurch to the left.

Ongoing? Who have they hired lately that is taking them to the left? Seems like they've had the same people for years.

THIS EXPLAINS

the Bernie Goldberg appearance this evening 3/19/15 where he tried (unsuccessfully) on the oreilly show to characterize fox news as extremist right wing as bad as msnbc is extremist left wing.

that’s uncharacteristic of Goldberg and I’m thinking he’s bucking for a time slot at msnbc.

Not only that, and not that it’s relevant, but on my cable tv channel listing msnbc is in LOWER CASE.

just sayin
