Bert and Ernie Gay Marriage Cake Row Could Force Muslims To Print Prophet Mohammed Cartoons Lawyer Human Rights barrister claims gay marriage cake court case would erode right to refuse to act against conscience
By John Bingham, Religious Affairs Editor6:40AM GMT 18 Mar 2015 Muslim printers could be forced to produce cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed if the case against a Christian bakery which refused to make a Sesame Street gay marriage cake is upheld, a prominent human rights barrister has claimed.
Aidan ONeill QC said a discrimination case against Ashers Baking Company which cancelled an order to make a cake featuring the characters Bert and Ernie arm in arm under the slogan support gay marriage could undermine freedom of conscience.
Mr ONeill was commissioned by the Christian Institute, which is supporting the bakerys legal defence, to provide a legal opinion on the implications of the case, which is due to come before a court in Belfast later this month.
He said the arguments upon which the legal action is based could also justify forcing a T-shirt company with a lesbian owner to print tops denouncing same-sex marriage as an abomination or an atheist web designer to build a website claiming the world was made by God in six days.
The row over the Bert and Ernie cake has divided opinion sharply in Northern Ireland, where the bakery is based, and led to attempts to introduce a so-called conscience clause into law in the province. The proposal, put forward by members of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), would give businesses an exclusion from discrimination law enabling them to refuse to provide services if they go against their religious convictions.

I am honestly surprised the gaystapo pulled this on Muslims. If they try it on US soil mulsims will be exempt from the laws that are shutting down Christian shops.
That...is not a headline that I ever expected to see.
Does this fall under ‘fair use’ for Ernie and Bert’s image?
Well, at least they’re being fair in their tyranny. /s :P
You do realize this is lawyer FOR the baker talking, not the one on the gay side?
No, they did it to Christians, but the attorney is arguing that if they rule against the Christians, then Muslims would be defenseless against being forced to do things against their conscience too. Really, it’s a brilliant argument to use against liberals.
There’s another shoe that will drop in the near future on this issue and we wont have to lift a finger to fight this battle. What happens when actresses start having to go to auditions for girlfriend/wife/mother/career girl parts and find out that the competition for these roles has now widened to include gay men? Looks like we see the end result some now but it’s nothing like what’s coming. Do they think these normally catty women will just suck up losing female roles to men in the name of all that’s PC? I think not. Start buying popcorn for this fight.
In order to be fair, whatever you abhor, you will be forced to do. Makes sense, right? Does not only apply to Christians; tha was just the first installment.
It seems like a good thing to use against liberals. However, most leftists are quite blatant and unapolegitic in discriminating for or against someone - they say, whatever forwards a political goal, do that. They would be quite unmoved by arguments for logical consistency or fairness. If you are of the wrong group, you are to be denounced and discriminated against, period. No justification is needed.
Excellent test case.
Go into a muslim bakery and demand a cake with Mohammed’s image on it.
Instant lawsuit. Let’s drive em out of America. Go to it.
Oh, I like that!! Except he may lace it with poison.
Then it’s a double bonus.
Hate crime, plus attempted murder.
It’s a start.
Queer choirs could be forced to sing Hymns and Negro Spirituals.
Wow, I love that about the Mohammed cartoons.
You’re right. But in all seriousnessand we all know whywhen is that EVER going to happen?
You’d first have to find a muslim concern that could create something of value like a cake.
