"Coordinated management among the states is the only solution to an unaccountable federal system of fisheries management. Faced with an untenable situation, the states have risen to the challenge and collectively identified a clear path to a more balanced fishery."

All the fish I see at stores is from China, Viet Nam or other countries. I thought America was out of fish.
We aren’t out of snapper though.
I grew up in South Florida and we always had red snapper or grouper. Recently I was visiting my sister in Ft. Lauderdale and went to a meat market and honestly all their fish was from other countries. The only U.S. fish I saw was catfish. Ft. Lauderdale is on the Atlantic. You would think they would be able to get fresh fish from there.
My Baby is a Seafood Platter.
Many of us used to go to the meat market for snapper.
I grew up in South Florida as well.
On a visit not too long ago we went to one of the drift fishing docks. I hadn’t been to one in decades. I remembered them having dozens and dozens of fresh caught fish on display. This time, they had about 6.
“Not a very good day?” I asked.
“Actually, today was pretty good.” he replied.
I think years of overfishing are taking their toll.
“You would think they would be able to get fresh fish from there.”
But, you would think wrongly.
The fish are there, but catching them is now banned in most cases. BigGub did for “sustainability”, using ‘reearch data’ provided by the well known BigBub bureau-scientist, Dr. Scam I. Am.
They are back, big time!
The past conservation measures worked well and the snapper reproduce faster than most of us thought.
Meanwhile the politically incorrectly named "Jewfish" now known as the Goliath grouper used to be a rare sight, but now that they are only catch-and-release, they are everywhere.
That is great to hear!
I wonder how the kingfish and mahi mahi (Dolphin) populations are doing in South Florida?
Beautiful fish while they're still in the water but they fade fast once landed. If properly prepared they can be made to taste like pompano.
And if you weren't careful you'd spend a whole lot of money and leave without any.
Yeah, fish is more expensive than beef. I can find red snapper and grouper frozen at Publix but it’s $15 for two small fillets.
Off the coast of Louisiana we catch so many red snapper we can’t give them away. What a joke.
