Presbyterian Church (USA) Changes Its Constitution To Include Gay Marriage

By Sarah Pulliam Bailey March 17

The Presbyterian Church (USA), the largest body of Presbyterians in the country, approved a change in the wording of its constitution to allow gay and lesbian weddings within the church, a move that threatens to continue to split the mainline Protestant denomination.

The 171 regional presbyteries (local leadership bodies within the PCUSA) have been voting on whether to change the wording to call marriage a contract “between a woman and a man” to being “between two people, traditionally a man and a woman.” On Tuesday, the denomination reached its needed majority of “yes” votes from at least 86 presbyteries to take effect. The change will be included in the church’s “Book of Order,” part of its constitution, taking effect on June 21.

The church, which has more than 1.7 million members, voted last June to allow clergy to perform same-sex weddings. That vote gave clergy the choice of whether to preside over same-sex marriages in states where they are legal, an action which is now allowed in 36 state and the District of Columbia. Clergy will not be compelled to perform same-sex marriage.

The missing part in the story is that their seminaries have been filled with gays for the last 20 to 30 years,...well, not filled but 20 30 percent of the students.... And many women ministers were gay or feminists. These people now run the institutions.

PCUSA is the LIBERAL body of Presbyterians in North America.

The PCA (Presbyterian church of America) and the Orthodox Presbyterians (OPC) do not subscribe to such wickedness.

Shouldn’t the church’s constitution be the bible? How can they claim to be Christians and then just make their own rules?

Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
Congregations 10,038
Members 1,760,200 active members, roughly 3 million adherents

Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)
Congregations 1,808
Members 367,033

Orthodox Presbyterian Church
Congregations 269
Members 30,758

In other words, a small minority of Presbyterians in North America do not agree with what the vast majority of them are promoting.

Essentially the PCUSA is splitting, however. Some churches are going with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, but many are joining the new Presbyterian body called ECO. It is growing rapidly as many churches are in the process of getting out of the PCUSA.

...”PCUSA became an anti=Christ church years ago already.

what nEXT can they do to slap God in the face!?”...

What they practice is social “justice,” not faith, and I see them as just another political organization which has adopted a false facade to sell themselves to vulnerable people who do not understand how rewriting the meaning of the Holy Scriptures is taking down civilization. I am not homophobic and I am not against gays..In my family there are four whom I love desperately. But those four go about their business, live their lives, and go to church without demanding that the Scriptures be changed. They have good jobs and are not subjected to discrimination in any form. My belief is this. We now have a large group of gays in high places in respected institutions in academia, government, the media, especially entertainment, the corporate world, entertainment, and the main line churches, etc., who are using their visibility and power to change society. We are told they are about 4% of this population but their power and influence now goes far beyond that number and those who hold that power are a far lower percentage than the 4% or so, identified. Gay marriage will not satisfy that group because marriage of any kind is restrictive and, most of the time, presented with problems that have to be resolved if the couple is to stay together. My guess is that most gays will not choose marriage. They do not want to be fodder for divorce lawyers. The gay marriage goal is something else and it opens the door to all kinds of marriage, all of which will degrade the very foundation of societies which is a man, a woman and their children. If the traditional family goes away altogether, so does civilization.

Then I guess this means the bible is no longer part of their teaching.

Just another formerly Christian church body. They ceased being a chruch long ago - this recent decision is just evidence of that fact.

If you're tired of Political Correctness in the PC USA, come for a breath of Fresh Air at the PCA. Where marriage is between one man and one woman before God for life. Where the Bible is considered the Inerrant, Infallible, Authoritative and Complete Word of God. Where the roles of men and women are God given and different (Viva La Difference) and Children are raised in the Nurture and Admonition of the Lord (instead of the PC bilge).

Come!

Wow, that was fast. So incestuous and child marriage is now approved in this cult, too?

The Presbyterian Church (USA), the largest body of Presbyterians in the country, approved a change in the wording of its constitution to change its focus from Christian to Pagan (Baal).

They apparently believe that Baal worship is compatible with Christianity, and will continue to selectively obey a plurality of the Ten Commandments.

Having been a member of both PCA and PCUSA congregations I can vouch that the air is fresher in the PCA. The PCUSA went off the reservation many moons ago. The WCC had a lot to do with it.

Thankfully, the Catholic Church has the promise of Christ, that the gates of hell shall never prevail against her.

And at the end of days we will be the ONLY Church standing by Christ. One by one every prot denomination is proving that they are man made institutions.

My great great grandfather is rolling in his grave. He was Rev. George Whitworth, who founded many Presbyterian churches in Washington, as well as Whitworth University in Spokane.
