In my day, Kraft Mac N Cheese is what we called the college student loan program.

Now mac and cheese made with real cheese, butter and cream is a different story.

Even without cream. I used to use the Cracker Barrel extra sharp cheddar, with some Land of Lakes American and other cheeses. And found Mueller mac to be the best.

Their recipe is here , but i would increase the cheese, and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top, plus silvers of Cheddar. Then cover it with buttered bread crumbs: half Ritz crackers and half unseasoned bread crumbs.

I would not spend that much now, but still i have made it with the cheese i had.

Thank God for such and taste buds. And pray for those who have not but work.

My wife does about 75% of her shopping there.

I lead a Trail Life USA troop. I try to get the boys to shop there when we camp. This past weekend no one shopped there and everyone went over budget.

Canned beans or tuna or salmon, I am prepared. They don’t need water either and are a hundred times more healthful. Who is the snob here? :)

Everything but the mushroom soup.

Haven’t been able to eat them since I watched The Beguiled back in the 70s.

:D

In our early married years while I was in the USAF (E-2, E-3) my wife and I ate mac and cheese and hotdogs about 4 times a weeks. On paydays we would splurge and go to McDonalds for the finer dining.

Surprisingly we still like mac n cheese but now its a choice not the only thing between us and hunger.

"We use extra sharp Cheddar cheese. It’s pretty expensive, like over $5 for a brick... I’m going to try a batch with regular cheddar..."

You can use regular cheese, but try mixing in some provolone. It adds a deep aftertaste and makes it stringy. The "sharp" flavor of processed cheese is mostly lost in cooking anyway, but you can make the cheese mix taste sharp by adding Coleman's Mustard Powder.

Eat what you want, that is part of freedom. For my choice, a can of beans or tuna or salmon makes better sense and healthier. Just my opinion, disregard at no shame on anyone.

Small pieces of metal is considered ruffage where I came from.

True.

As a kid, I swallowed a thumbtack!

It passed without problems.

Mark 7:26-27
 26.  The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
 27.  "First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."
