Gene Patton, the beloved dancing stagehand on the hugely popular 1970s series "The Gong Show," has died in Pasadena, Calif. He was 82.
"Gene Gene the Dancing Machine" was a favorite segment of the whacky talent show hosted by Chuck Barris.
He died Monday after suffering from diabetes, his family announced Saturday.
For seemingly no reason at all, Barris would bellow for "Gene Gene the Dancing Machine," and out would shuffle Patton, who was really a NBC stagehand

I absolutely LOVED that coked out show.
The Gong Show was the perfect embodiment of silly 70’s fun.
That was one of my favorite shows at the time. RIP Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine.
Loved how Chucky was constantly wiping his nose and not because he had a cold.
Fond memories of J.P. Morgan, “Dust Up His Nose” (with touching kazoo solo, and “I’m Gonna Play My Xylophone”.
o),
Thanks for posting that link. What fun it was to watch that show! Gene was always the highlight.
But do any of those shows have a gong?
I think not!!!
Long time rumor that Barris was Black Ops for the Company. ????
Nobody could slut up a game show like Jaye P. Morgan
RIP Mr. Patton. Thanks for the laughs.
Doggone it! The man had some moves.
I heard he finished second to John Travolta for the lead in Saturday Night Fever.
That brings back memories, thanks.
I always felt sorry for Barris because of what happened to his only child: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=98249657
