Arkansas Mom Exposes Common Core For The Nightmare It Is
http://amac.us ^ | 03/10/2015 | Tom Hinchey

Karen Lamoreaux addressed the Arkansas Board of Education in December 2013 to discuss the negative effects of Common Core on the local students. Mrs. Lamoreaux said that she represented more than 1,100 parents, educators, and taxpayers of Arkansas “who have very serious reservations about the Common Core initiative.” The mother of three children accused the board of falling for the same empty sales pitch that Common Core would be a “set of rigorous, college-ready internationally bench-marked standards that prepare our kids to compete in a global economy.”

Mrs. Lamoreaux instructed the members of the school board to participate in a Common Core math problem by getting their pencils out.

Are you smarter than a Common Core fourth grader? Let’s find out. The problem is: Mr. Yamato’s class has 18 students. If the class counts around by a number and ends with 90, what number did they count by?

After restating the math problem again, Mrs. Lamoreaux asked if anybody on the board knew the answer. One board member answered “five” by dividing 18 into 90. Mrs. Lamoreaux confirmed:

You know why? Because that’s what makes sense, right? That’s the way we were taught to do it in the fourth grade level.

Then she held up a Common Core math lesson that teaches students to solve this problem in a different way.

This, however, is what the Common Core Standards expect our fourth graders to do. If they solve it in those two steps they get it marked wrong. They are expected to draw 18 circles with 90 hashmarks solving this problem in exactly 108 steps. Board members, this is not rigorous. This is not college ready. This is not preparing our children to compete in a global economy.

Mrs. Lamoreaux went on to say that students who were in the upper eightieth percentile or greater in the previous year are now getting C’s, D’s, and F’s on their report cards. With passion in her voice, Mrs. Lamoreaux told the board that she and other parents will fight to change this curriculum that is “dumbing down our kids.”

I encourage you to listen to us when we send you our emails despite the comments that were made by our chairperson here today. Our concerns are not based on hysteria or propaganda. They are based on fact and we are prepared to present those facts. Can you see the trembling in my voice?

She concluded her time:

This is not working. And it’s not what they told you it would be. We will save the privacy concerns and the testing concerns for our legislature. But when it comes to standards, that’s your ball court. And we need you to help us with this because this program is dumbing our children down. Thank you.

In February, Governor Asa Hutchinson announced his plan to create a 16-person Common Core review committee that will take another look at the state standards. Many parents like Karen Lamoreaux are pleased with that decision.

“One of the functions and objectives of Common Core is to drag the performance of the normal to smart students down to the level of the underperformers.”

Or it could be to put their minds in a certain protocol
mode that allows them to be susceptible to other types
of brain washing. It could go even further than that.
What I’m saying is that it might not be just dumbing down
but preparing their mind to accept some other form of
mind control.

“Tell me that the teachers don't have blame for their work in the dumbing down of American children in public schools,......”

YES! Every day teachers willingly go to work and HURT CHILDREN! The commit malpractice knowingly or stupidly but it is still malpractice. They do it for money. There aren't armed police dragging them to work.

And...If they are teaching one of the rare subjects that is not fully impacted by nutty practices they are still supporting, upholding, and establishing a godlessly secular government school that does hurt children.

None of this damage to children could happen without the WILLING cooperation of teachers. No one is holding a gun to their heads. They hurt children for money, generous vacations, and a pension.

Every other American has managed to find work that doesn't hurt children. Teachers could, too.

Removing parents from the equation is the depth of stupidity.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It is not stupid if true goal of the Marxists is to remove the parents from the child.

That’s the goal! Separate the children from the influence of his family and to make his family seem stupid and uninformed to the child.

“We are in a war for the soul of the USA ..”

YES! YES! YES! ....You get it!

For years I have been posting that government schooling is our nation’s MOST serious threat! We can survive almost any attack but if our nation’s children continue to be indoctrinated in Marxist run schools staffed with Marxist-trained teachers our nation’s freedom is in serious jeopardy.

When you meet a government teacher, please remember that they are WILLINGLY seek work that hurts children and threatens our nation’s freedom. No one is holding a gun to their heads forcing them to do this.

I think most of the math teachers these days can barely do math themselves.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Having worked with government teachers in our church's tutoring program, I testify that the dull-witted teachers running the program that even a long division problem is beyond their minimal ability. Fractions? Forget it!

It’s because they are all products of the “new” way of teaching. The libs deemed rote memorization and repetition till you got it boring and decided that school must be fun. When that happened, education went out the window.

Math can be challenging for a lot of kids if not taught well and this is the epitome of being “not taught well”. Twisting the math calculations up like a pretzel will certainly psych kids out. Many people will develop a mental block as adults about simple everyday calculations and become a target for rip off artists and yes, maybe mind control too.

I thought it was a crime when they stopped drilling multiplication tables in elementary school, the foundation to every bit of later math, and maybe that was just the first step toward robbing us of essential math skills.

All throughout history, the best way to keep people enslaved is to forbid them to learn to read, write and do arithmetic.

This is when parents go down to the school board and tell them “You get rid of this travesty before the end of the school year, if not sooner, or our kids won’t be back here next year.”

Then tell the board that plans are in the works to start private schools or implement homeschooling so they better get on board or the staff will be on the unemployment line.

You can’t beg and plead with them anymore.
