Philadelphia’s transit system has been ordered to accept provocative ads that include a 1941 photograph of Adolf Hitler with a former Arab leader after a federal judge ruled in favour of a pro-Israel group’s free-speech lawsuit.
The proposed bus ads carry a tagline saying: “Jew Hatred: It’s in the Quran”.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority believes the ads violate “minimal civility standards” and will consider an appeal. The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported on Wednesday’s ruling by US district judge Mitchell Goldberg.
The ad in question features a photograph of a 1941 meeting between Adolf Hitler and Haj Amin al-Husseini, described by the group as a Palestinian leader and Hitler ally.
The ads are produced by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, a New Hampshire-based group that opposes US aid to Islamic countries and has filed similar lawsuits in New York and other cities.
Septa’s general counsel, Gino J Benedetti, testified in December that he rejected the ad because he thought it “put every single Muslim in the same category (of) being a Jew hater”.
Goldberg concluded that the transit authority’s “anti-disparagement” policy, while well-intentioned, was not clearly defined and therefore potentially discriminatory. He noted that Septa has run viewpoint ads on public issues including animal cruelty, birth control, religion and fracking.

Hadj Amin el-Husseini, former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, has been officially placed on the war criminals list of the United Nations, the Hebrew Committee for National Liberation reported today.
The committee, which sent a memorandum to the United Nations War Crimes Commission and several European governments, last April, asking indictment of the ex-Mufti, made public a cable from Sava Kosanovich, Minister of the Interior and Information in the Yugoslav Government, declaring that “Mufti Hadj Amin el-Husseini put by Yugoslavia on list of war criminals.”
The steps which led up to the indictment of the Mufti, who is now held under comfortable house arrest in a villa outside of Paris, were described by the committee as follows:
In reply to its original request to the War Crimes Commission that it place the Mufti on its list of criminals, the commission stated that before doing so one of its member governments would have to present evidence constituting a prima facie case.
Upon receipt of this cable, a committee representative discussed the matter with Ivan Subasic, Yugoslav Minister of Foreign Affairs, while he was at San Francisco, pointing out that the Mufti had organized the German S.S. Moslem Division in Bosnie and been responsible for the massacre of Yugoslav Moslems who refused to collaborate with the Germans.
It was reported recently that there was little possiblity that the Mufti would be punished, since the British, who had been seeking him on various charges, had made no move to extradite him from France, and it was rumored that the French were treating him with great deference with a view of making use of him in their attempt to win Arab support in the Levant and North Africa.
The French sent him to Egypt, later to move to Jordan then Lebanon where he died.

The Koran does not mandate that Muslims must hate Jews - only that they not trust or befriend any, and that they fight and slay them.
Emotional involvement is optional. Maybe Hadith requires hatred.

I am for extreme free speech and would allow this tagline. But it might be more effective and deemed accurate if a specific chapter and verse were quoted rather than generalizing about the Koran. The we could have the typical debate over whether it was taken out of context.

This is an effective bus ad. Less honest, but effective in pursuing the curious.
