AP sues State Department, seeking access to Clinton records

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Associated Press filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the State Department to force the release of email correspondence and government documents from Hillary Rodham Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.

The legal action comes after repeated requests filed under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act have gone unfulfilled. They include one request AP made five years ago and others pending since the summer of 2013.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, comes a day after Clinton broke her silence about her use of a private email account while secretary of state. The FOIA requests and lawsuit seek materials related to her public and private calendars, correspondence involving longtime aides likely to play key roles in her expected campaign for president, and Clinton-related emails about the Osama bin Laden raid and National Security Agency surveillance practices.

"After careful deliberation and exhausting our other options, The Associated Press is taking the necessary legal steps to gain access to these important documents, which will shed light on actions by the State Department and former Secretary Clinton, a presumptive 2016 presidential candidate, during some of the most significant issues of our time," said Karen Kaiser, AP's general counsel.

"The press is a proxy for the people, and AP will continue its pursuit of vital information that's in the public interest through this action and future open records requests," she said.

State Department spokesman Alec Gerlach declined to comment. He had previously cited the department's heavy annual load of FOIA requests — 19,000 last year — in saying that the department "does its best to meet its FOIA responsibilities." He said the department takes requests "first in, first out," but noted that timing depends on "the complexity of the request."

I do believe you're correct.

I wonder when they do the official Fauxcahontas roll-out?

Here's what it will look like:

I think Hillary was TOLD to establish a hidden email server so HE could keep his foreign policy dealings hidden from public record. I think this goes higher up than her and he's probably sweating a bit right now.

A reasonable assumption, but I disagree that Obama is sweating. I believe this was a set up that served two purposes: It allows for less transparacncy by Obama's admin, AND allowed for a "quick-grenade-to-the-head" when it was time to pull the pin on Hillary Clinton's 2016 candidacy.

I'm thinking Hillary hid her emails from public record BY ORDER OF OBAMA so as to begin his traitorous foreign policy to include the overthrow of our Egyptian ally, illegal arms trafficking in Benghazi, enabling ISIS to purge the Middle East of Christians, the undermining of Israel and its current government, enabling Putin to overrun Ukraine, etc..

IMHO F&F was also a foreign policy FU, killing hundreds of innocent Mexicans.

[Who will prosecute her? Holder?]

If she IS prosecuted, my theory would start looking possible, of course this will not be done immediately they’ll wait until his media are done with her.

Now isn't that a laffer after shilling and supporting Emperor Hussein for 6+ years!!!! All of a sudden they are a "proxy for the people - gimme a break.

I do not want to read too deep, but maybe AP is still covering for the proven liar Obama. I mean that there has got to be emails back and forth to/from Obama and Hillary Clinton (not to mention other emails). And among those emails there has to be "smoking guns". AP will likely come back and state that Hillary did no wrong.

We'll see what happens. This could be a 'one-two punch' to take Hillary out of the race. Remember a few days before her email scandal broke, alleged illegal foreign campaign contributions via the Clinton Foundation was floating about the Internet?

Barry may want Fauxcahontas because she is more loyal to him, but now he's GOT to know Hillary could REALLY burn his azz if she wanted to.

Either way, Hillary or Faux it’s a mass catharsis ‘vagina fest’ hosted by Sandra Fluke. Same chit as 2008 and 2012. There’s no reasoning with bimbos immersed in women’s issues.

LOL Sandra was on a roll for a while but got tripped up by that “jungle primary” deal in Cali and p*ssed away a million of her in-laws bucks on a losing campaign.

Why are the Drive-Bys suddenly throwing Hillary under the bus? Is this a distraction from the rest of the Benghazi scandal? Is Obama running for a 3rd term? Is Elizabeth Warren running for POTUS? What is the real purpose of this?

Good point. Hillary’s is bad, but hers is more incriminating / criminal.

About time the media did their job, but I will wait and see how this pans out for the media.

Given the left leaning slant of the AP, I think this is a ruse. I suspect the AP will draw this out until after the next election, thereby protecting Hillary.
