WASHINGTON (AP) The Associated Press filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the State Department to force the release of email correspondence and government documents from Hillary Rodham Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.
The legal action comes after repeated requests filed under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act have gone unfulfilled. They include one request AP made five years ago and others pending since the summer of 2013.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, comes a day after Clinton broke her silence about her use of a private email account while secretary of state. The FOIA requests and lawsuit seek materials related to her public and private calendars, correspondence involving longtime aides likely to play key roles in her expected campaign for president, and Clinton-related emails about the Osama bin Laden raid and National Security Agency surveillance practices.
"After careful deliberation and exhausting our other options, The Associated Press is taking the necessary legal steps to gain access to these important documents, which will shed light on actions by the State Department and former Secretary Clinton, a presumptive 2016 presidential candidate, during some of the most significant issues of our time," said Karen Kaiser, AP's general counsel.
"The press is a proxy for the people, and AP will continue its pursuit of vital information that's in the public interest through this action and future open records requests," she said.
State Department spokesman Alec Gerlach declined to comment. He had previously cited the department's heavy annual load of FOIA requests 19,000 last year in saying that the department "does its best to meet its FOIA responsibilities." He said the department takes requests "first in, first out," but noted that timing depends on "the complexity of the request."

A fightin’ granny from Oklahoma awaits....
Sounds like an opportunity to do reverse trolling, and to weaken the opposition.
AP!?!?! Wow, this is hugh and series!
I can only handle about 5 min there, then I have to take a shower...
I would not even be able to last five minutes—I give you a lot of credit.
GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AMERICA! MY SECRETARY OF STATE WILL BE PRESIDENT AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE CHEATING DEMOCRAT BANK AND THE STUPID VOTERS WHO WILL PUT MY LADY LIAR IN MY PLACE!(B Insane Obama)
All this investigation seems like a big drum roll and the bugles will reach an all time high, and the news will finally say Hilliary has been exonerated and been a victim of Obamas transparent lies and there she is: Her Majesty Hillary Clinton! Barrrffff!!!
Speaking of Chelsea, why don't Hillary just be a grandmother to her unaborted grandchild and be there for her unaborted daughter. Then, the UN don't have to have abortions on demand. Oh! What difference does it make!
AP turning on hitlary? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
“Wouldn’t that be ironic if she got Ft. Marcy Parked?”
Yes, and tragic too..
Form 109 whatever...
Hillary will say she never signed it? Or they will never find it? Or they are in the process of filling it out now with Hilarities signature signed retroactively.
JMHO
Obama will pardon her, so she’s safe..................
The coming ‘Sandra Fluke vagina party’ will erase any memory of an email scandal.
Hurrah! Let’s get some actual info, media. Then provide some actual news, media. Maybe someday we can learn something _true_ from mass media, even, less likely USG.
this is a friendly suit so this case can be directed to a NYC type judge who will guarantee all cases will consolidate to a partisan democrat.
I imagine that over time the alphabet networks: CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSN, etc. Have started realizing that they aren’t providing Americans with what they want. Money talks. When people don’t buy your product, what do you do? You change it to fit what your target audience wants. Which is, the truth.
I think the media is slowly starting to realize they backed the wrong jackass. But probably not.
Have you seen the petition on the WH website? To arrest the 47 GOP senators who sent that letter to Iran. There are a lot of stupid people out there. Blaming the GOP for undermining Obama. That’s what congress is supposed to do: check the executive branch, and vote on legislation. Treason? The people that signed that petition are bonkers, living in an America they think exists.
Boy will they be shocked to find out what America really is.
They accepted Obama as their dear leader. I’d love to see the reaction of one of them if they could step into his head for one minute. Their head would likely explode, or they would go into a deep depression ending in suicide. To be so betrayed must be earth shattering. I know it was to me when in 2008 my neighbors and countrymen all voted in a man that I would not trust with a mop and broom. Then again in 2012 when fellow conservatives decided an illegal foreign manchurian candidate was much better than homegrown American stock, so they just didn’t vote. I no longer expect anyone to do the right thing. There are degrees of guilt in the fall of America, and no one is innocent.
Sadly no one will consider the act of 'leveling the playing field' means some people are forcibly held back, torn down, or otherwise subjected to destruction in order to make the field 'level'.
It is the economic equivalent of hobbling the faster runner, amputating the legs of the taller basketball player, or damaging the eyes of those who have especially sharp eyesight, just so everyone else can start at the same place.
My question is... Who on earth are they about to trot out as the 2016 nom? It scares me a bit, honestly. Hillary would be better than Obama, and if not her, then whom? This couldn’t be for E Warren... Seriously, folks, I am asking...
