The Democrats quit playing by “Marquis de Queensbury” rules long ago.

They have taken up playing Queensberry Rules instead.

"The Senate's job is to settle this with the President."

This president routinely treats the senators w/ contempt and because we have co-equal branches of government reciprocal contempt seems appropriate.

Besides, they didn't open negotiations w/ Iran they merely pointed out the fact that any agreement signed by this numbskull has a very short shelf life unless its approved by 2/3 of the senate. That's the law. The mullahs should be made aware of this and no, international law has no bearing.

Obama could have reached out to the GOP for input and thus prevented the current acrimony, but of course he didn't and so he richly deserves being undercut.

I don't think they violated the Logan act. For one, they have the authority of the United States by virtue of being Congressmen, effectively the head of one of the 3 branches of the US government.

Secondly, the only thing they did was explain our constitutional process and what may or may not be a binding treaty. They didn't say anything untrue. And they didn't state anything that appears to try to influence negotiations one way or the other. They simply stuck to explaining the process.

Logan Act "Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."

Can you show me where in the Constitution it says it’s Senators job to give civics lessons to foreign leaders?

It’s their job to ratify treaties, so they do have a vested interest in making sure the process goes as constitutionally outlined.

And as governmental leaders, it is their job to set the correct expectations between governments. They apparently think Obama was failing to do so, so they moved to make sure everybody was understanding the playbook.

Can you show me where the constitution forbids Senators from giving civics lessons to foreign leaders?

I’m unsure exactly what you want the Senators to do in reference to the President. Write a nasty letter? Stomp their feet? Hold their breath till they turn blue?

The President and State department have every right to negotiate with foreign governments. I’m pretty sure the Senators have made their opinions known to the President. If not, he surely knows where they stand now.

Iran’s response to “the letter” exposes exactly why the correspondence was necessary. Iran apparently believes that the President can rubber stamp any agreement. And that our Constitution is trumped by International law. I think that’s actually the reason the letter was sent. Someone in the administration apparently hasn’t told Iran “the rules”

It’s called negotiating in bad faith.

You don’t negotiate to buy a car, house, or whatever..strike a deal, shake hands and then say “I gotta go ask my wife first”. Let me back up a little. Some people do. And those people are beneath contempt.

The distinction is that Democrats communicate with America’s enemies to undercut a President who is trying to defeat America’s enemies. Republicans communicate with America’s enemies to undercut a President who is trying to surrender to our enemies.

Republicans communicate with America’s enemies to undercut enable a President who is trying to surrender to our enemies.

The word is enable, not undercut.

Maybe you read the letter that Ted Cruz signed differently than I did. I used the word that fits.

I guess Cruz outed himself as a Harvard guy by doubling down foe the McConnell bunch.

Show me where in the Constitution is says Senators are supposed to inform foreign leaders how our system works?

***Art II, Sect 2: "He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties..."

No treaties without the Senates advice and no treaties without their consent. They cannot advise without getting involved, and they shouldn't consent unless they have been involved.

What is your point? The Senators advised a villainous regime that Obama doesn’t get the last word, which may be news to them. What would have been more appropriate for the Senators to do? Your argument sure isn’t making any sense.
