Rahm Emanuel’s path to re-election as Chicago’s mayor just got a little murkier. On Monday a large group of African American ministers led by Operation Push activist Jesse Jackson endorsed Rahm’s opponent, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia.
Emanuel has been having a lot of trouble with three entrenched constituencies in the Windy City: The black community, the Hispanic community and the teachers union. Still, in the recent election he did better with black voters than he might have. But today, after losing Jesse Jackson and the city’s black ministers, Emanuel might have received a fatal blow to his shaky base of African American voters.

Chicago is currently 31% non Hispanic white, 32% black, 14% Hispanic, 5% Asian, plus “other”.

It’s fun to watch when the “minority” group self interest begins to clash.
I am not far from the Motor City. For years Detroit had Chicago Envy. It took collapse, self examination via outside push to bring it to true bankruptcy and emergence and the success of that venture is not guaranteed. However, their journey has begun. I see Chicago as this gorgeous city that corruption built. Take a Lake Michigan boat ride and look back at the beautiful city, it is amazing. But at it's core the Gov't Jobs, the Bennies, the "new citizens" and their cost, the South Side Death Rate and under this facade is true decay. Detroit's decay is out in the open and frankly has begun to show fresh new sprouts, I am not sure we can say that about Chicago and Illinois.

With the Internet and teleconferencing, finance and commerce can happen anywhere. You don't need to be in a city anymore. Make things ugly enough, and the finance and commerce people will move out.
The same kind of battle is now going on in MD for Mikulski's senate seat and in CA for Boxer's. It is inevitable. Remember the fate of Stephen Solarz.

I could not agree more. It is the fate of “Democracies” to collapse into warring factions. Supporting the struggle is extreme egalitarianism with its attendant extreme individualism .
