Newspaper slams Rand Paul, Ted Cruz as 'traitors'
Washington Times ^ | 03/10/2015 | CHERYL CHUMLEY

Posted on 03/10/2015 7:19:44 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

The New York Daily News’ Tuesday cover took a highly critical stance against senators who requested the White House in a letter turn away from its nuclear deal with Iran, slapping up pictures of Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul and others above a large-font, all-caps, front-page headline: “TRAITORS.”

The accompanying story was an editorial that was titled, “Un-patriot games as Senate Republicans undermine President Obama on Iran.”

Editors slammed the 47 Republicans who pointed out via letter that President Obama ought to consider the Constitution and its caveat to obtain the consent of the Senate when forging foreign agreements, and said that while the nuclear talks might be marred by “fecklessness,” that’s still no excuse for bad congressional behavior.

Specifically, the editorial called out the senators for “treachery” and accused them of “sending a letter to the mullahs aimed at cutting the legs out from under America’s commander-in-chief.”

It went on to say the pact as forged was not worthy of signing, “but we strenuously condemn their betrayal of the U.S. constitutional system. The participants represented the bulk of the Republicans’ 54-member senatorial majority, vesting their petulant, condescending stunt with the coloration of an institutional foreign policy statement. They are an embarrassment to the Senate and to the nation. … Rather than offer objections domestically in robust debate, as is their obligation, ringleader Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and his band trespassed on presidential turf by patronizing Iran’s leaders with the suggested ‘that you may not fully understand our constitutional system.’”

New York Daily News editors said “the plain intent was to sabotage Obama” and “horrendously, every member of the Republican Senate leadership signed the letter, as did GOP presidential contenders Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.

“Yes, Congress has no business commenting on US foreign policy, that’s the POTUS turf.”

I don’t think so. If that were the case then why do
treaties have to have Senate approval? Same with war.
The war powers act being what it is, it still has limitations
and eventual congressional approval. I don’t think the
founders of this country took into consideration that at
some point the president would be facilitating arming our
enemies. In this case your are right to a point. They
have no business because they have taken impeachment off
the table. They might as well sit down and shut up.
The constitution is not a suicide pact. It was not meant to
destroy this country. I thing Paul and Cruz has every right
to comment on this clowns foreign policy if it runs contrary
to the benefit of this country.

Technically, I can somewhat commiserate, under more reasonable and sane times. But I, my personal vote, put my Congressman and Senators there to STOP anything and EVERYTHING Obama wants to do, and reverse what he has done already.

As far as I’m concerned his daily life is filled with efforts to destroy this country.

Obama: I'll Make Case to American People After Iran Deal Is Made

nully-the-psychic says:

Here's the deal:

If Iran says they'll stop their nuclear weapons program, we'll give them 10 fully functional W88 warheads with the PAL codes (00000000 in all cases)

The announcement to the American public will be made after the warheads have been physically transferred.

The left likes it the way things just the way they've been over the past fifty years - our side obeying protocol and abiding by the rules while they do whatever the hell works for them. Why not? They've nearly seized total control at the federal level.

I'm glad our side is finally showing a little pluck, at least.

Are you serious? Grandstanding is what the Establishment has been doing to fool voters by voting for obamacare repeal, for example, with no genuine desire to truly scrap it. What should these senators have done instead?

They should have sent that letter to Obama, not the Iranians.

“Un-patriot games as Senate Republicans undermine President Obama on Iran.”

I’m a little surprised that Senator Cotton was able to get more than 18 or 19 Senators to sign with him. We know who’s playing the “UN-patriot games” the same party that’s lead by the guy who wouldn’t face and salute the flag or wear a flag pin because he didn’t want to be seen as “taking sides”. He knew ten who’s side he was on and it isn’t our side. He’s a traitorous, treasonous snake.

Now we know where Howard Dean got the traitor meme. Yes, lets bring Traitor back
into vogue so people understand what Obama is doing to our Constitution.

If it stops Obama and the Iranians in their tracks, why wasn't the appropriate thing to do?

It was a warning shot against the bow to the Iranians.

And an incentive for Iran to get fully nuke capable before the change of U.S. administrations. They know we're no threat to them until then. Israel will just have to handle it, and they are more than adequate for the task.

When the White House is occupied by a drug-addled racist who hates America, undermining his efforts to legitimize Iran’s nuclear weapons program is a good thing. The only treason in our country today comes from those who support Barack Hussein Obama.

I agree. What can congress do if an out of control president keeps going around the congress? The congress has no choice but to use their equal power to go around the mad man.
I have no problem with what they did. They should go around the rouge dictator every chance they get. Someone has to stop him from playing king. Who else can do it?

I do not care what the newspapers say, I know who the traitors are.

I'm sure I and millions of others agree with you.
The media is mostly liberal. It doesn't matter what they think. Only the idiots believe everything these paid shills tell them.

It doesn't matter what people say. It's what they DO that tells the real story and does the real damage.

Many seem to expect perfection out of a candidate. I don’t, although there are those lines which I will not cross. Illegal immigration, for instance!!!!!!
