Lawmakers rally around expanded background checks for gun sales
The Hill ^

Posted on 03/05/2015 2:49:24 PM PST by Red in Blue PA

The gun battle is raging on Capitol Hill.

Lawmakers will introduce new gun safety legislation Tuesday expanding background checks to prevent criminals and people who are mentally ill from buying guns.

Most gun shops are already required to conduct background checks, but the rules don’t apply to firearm sales made online and at gun shows. The Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act would close this loophole and expand background checks to all gun sales.

“This bill is anti-criminal, and will help keep spouses, kids and communities safe by preventing dangerous people from getting guns,” said Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), who will introduce the legislation.

But the gun safety legislation comes in stark contrast to recent Republican bills that would expand concealed carry laws across the country and allow hunters to use armor-piercing ammunition.

Gun rights groups are gearing up for a major concealed carry push.

You are all correct but you miss the most obvious reason the Left wants “Universal Background Checks”: once the law’s in place, they tighten the reasons to deny transfers to include everything on earth, down to traffic offenses.

Remember when they added “domestic violence” to the list of offenses to preclude firearms ownership? They even made the mere accusation sufficient to deny transfers.

They want the net to be complete and then they’ll tighten the mesh.

We need to repeal the Brady Law and GCA 68.

Politicians are terrified of an armed American public.

As they should be. Most of them should have been hung a long time ago.

We should be burning down their houses at the very least.

A bald faced lie.

Yeah that’s a complete lie. I see there is not much of “lawmakers rally around” like the headline says here about this moronic legislation.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/1217?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22Peter+King%22%5D%7D

It has only 7 cosponsors with 3 of them being RINOs.

“but the rules don’t apply to firearm sales made online”

Wow, it should be against the law for someone this ignorant of a subject to be allowed to write and publish an article about it.

Online sales across state lines ALWAYS first require delivery of a firearm purchased online to a Federally Licensed Firearms dealer who is required by Federal law to perform an InstaCheck background check on the buyer before transferring the firearm to the purchaser.

Also, many states like Colorado require gun show sales to perform this same procedure prior to transfer.

Basically, Tim Devaney is making shite up. Either that or he’s simply mindlessly propagating the lying propaganda of the anti-gunners behind this BS legislation.

So, take you pick:Tim is either making stuff up or is a mindless tool of the anti-gunner propagandists. Either way, there is nothing legitimate about his “news” article: it’s pure propaganda.

If you think this is ignorance at work you are making a big mistake. The topic itself is not that complicated. These statements are called "lies".

NRA? The same ones that endorsed Reid? The same group that ‘happily’ went along with ‘common-sense’ 2nd A infringements?

GOA is by far a more principled institution.

Why, it makes it SO much more difficult to enforce edicts by (deadly [aka gun]) force when the opposing party has their own pointed back in defense.

In 1865 a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States .

In 1881 a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States who later died from the wound.

In 1963 a radical left wing socialist shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States.

In 1975 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States.

In 1983 a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan, President of the United States .

In 1984 James Hubert, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds restaurant.

In 1986 Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.

In 1990 James Pough, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office.

In 1991 George Hennard, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 23 people in a Luby’s cafeteria in Killeen, TX .

In 1995 James Daniel Simpson, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory.

In 1999 Larry Asbrook, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 8 people at a church service.

In 2001 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush, President of the US.

In 2003 Douglas Williams, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.

In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung - Hui Cho, shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech.

In 2010 a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner, shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed 6 others.

In 2011 a registered Democrat named James Holmes, went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.

In 2012 Andrew Engeldinger, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis .

In 2013 a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people in a school in Newtown, CT.

As recently as Sept 2013, an angry Democrat shot 12 at a Navy ship yard.

Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns.

Not one NRA member, Tea Party member, or Republican conservative was involved in any of these shootings and murders.

SOLUTION: It should be illegal for Democrats to own guns.

Best idea I’ve heard to date!

Well, too, look at what the Party of Government is doing, as noticed to us on other threads:

Did I miss anything the GOP is getting ready to fold and roll over on for their Liege Lord the Cool Cat Catamite?

Good thing we showed them DemonRats the error of their ways in 2014.

The RePuBiCrats are surely gonna save us from their partners in crime.

Got em on the run now.

By my reckoning, we are down to one box.

Pray for America.
