Despite the disintegration of their forces, the Germans still have a decent grasp of lineup of the Allied divisions facing them. It will be interesting to see if that information becomes more inaccurate or starts to disappear.
I still wish we had the more detailed maps like we did in Normandy or that are done for Army Group Vistula. But maybe the Fuhrer doesn’t want to see the unpleasant details.
Well, I’ve never donated my car, much less a ‘72 Mach 1, to the cause, so I’d say you’ve given a full measure of devotion!
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

An old-fashioned pitchers' duel! Not sure the wind was blowing out, because only three homers were hit. Willie McGee also had quite a day: 4 for 6, 3 Rs, 6 RBIs, HR, 3B, 2B. Something for everyone. By the way, there have been any number of similar 12-11 games at Coors Field, especially pre-humidor.
Here's a link in case you want to reminisce, though it won't retrieve your Mustang for you:

Just for fun, here's a link to the famous Phils 23-Cubs 22 game from five years earlier:

And just for the heck of it, here's a link to the 1922 game, Cubs 26-Phils 23:

A day I will never forget. At least what I remember of it. I had to make a car theft report to Chicago PD after an “extra inning” game at Wrigley Field, if you know what I mean.
“You sure you parked your car here, buddy? All these streets look the same...”
That thought occurred to me also. Maybe with the Russians so close to Berlin, Hitler has lost interest in the Western Front.
Keep in mind that the maps are not being prepared by the same people. The Lage West maps are prepared by Col. Gen. Alfred Jodl as Chief of Operations of OKW. The Heeresgruppe Weichsel maps are being prepared by Col. Gen. Heinz Guderian, who is Chief of Staff for OKH. So the content and information is different. We’ll see if there is a change in the content of the Heeresgruppe Weichsel maps after Guderian gets the sack on March 28.
Why did the Times spell it “Dinah?” Dinah Shore?
The wind was not blowing out that day. There were just some very good hitters on both teams. The Cards got their six in the top of the 2nd off sinkerballer Steve Trout, who had a bone bruise on one of the fingers of his left (pitching) hand. As a result the sinker didn’t sink and the Cards took BP off him. From then on Jim Frey went through his pitching staff playing catch up. When Dave Owen hit the game winning RBI, the next day’s scheduled starter, Rick Sutcliffe, was warming up in the bullpen.
With a burned out bullpen, getting a quality start on Sunday June 24 was imperative. He got one from Sutcliffe, who would win the Cy Young that year. We sat in the centerfield bleachers that day and looked over his shoulder as he threw a complete game shutout, giving up two hits and fanning 15.
For me, that was the Golden Age of baseball.

By the way, congratulations in advance: your Cubs look legit. My wife got rerouted through O'Hare unexpectedly on a cold day and needed a jacket from the airport shop, so she bought a Cubs hoody. Now it's my grandson's favorite team, the little traitor. I'm spending his inheritance...

It should not have been hard; the Sibuyan Sea is fairly shallow and the site of her sinking was pretty well known.
Any pics?

When I saw that article early today, I was quite puzzled at the paltriness of the pictures: just the two you’ve mentioned, neither of which was even identifiable as belonging to a ship of any size, much less a Japanese battleship. Something’s not right.
