Now the Obama Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are planning to ban ammo to one of the most popular types of rifle ammunition. The AP reported:
The Obama administration is considering banning a type of ammunition used in one of the most popular types of rifles because it says the bullets can pierce a police officer’s protective vest when fired from a handgun.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is proposing the ban of some types of 5.56 mm rounds – or .223-caliber – used in widely available and popular AR-15-style rifles because the bullets can also be used in some new types of handguns. Other types of 5.56 mm rounds would still be legal to buy, own and fire from guns.
The rule change would affect only “M855 green tip” or “SS109″ rounds with certain types of metal cores. People who already own the ammunition would be allowed to continue to legally own it, but manufacturers would not be allowed to produce, sell, import or distribute it.
In a letter to ATF Director B. Todd Jones last month, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., objected to the rule change, saying it would “interfere with Second Amendment rights by disrupting the market for ammunition that law-abiding Americans use for sporting and other legitimate purposes.”

Some years ago I believe they also made illegal the importation of Russian and Chinese 7.62 x 39 mm and 5.45 x 39 mm.
So that means there has been a sudden and dramatic gummint interest thwarting ammo supplies for BOTH of the two top personal defense carbines.
When you take the disparate snapshots and put them together, the total picture is a disturbing one.
I received an email ad from Midway USA earlier today. SS109 was selling, if I recall correctly, for $549.99 for 1,000 rounds. That is hideous. I am glad that I stocked up on reloading components over the past several years. I will be able to make M885 to NATO specs, less the primer crimp and the green paint, for years to come for about $0.12 per round.
Couldn’t I just drill the tip of the bullet and add my own metal core to any ammo available?

That’s a pretty small bullet to mess with. However, I have illustrated plans on how to insert a low-yield nuclear device into the tip of these rounds and I’m willing to sell them for $1,500,000 cash per copy. Talk about piercing a PO’s vest - these will take out the whole precinct!
