Senators approved a bill Friday that could make West Virginia the sixth state to allow residents to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. After reading aloud from the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, senators voted 32-2 for a bill (SB347) that allows people 18 and older to tote concealed guns. The bill eliminates the crime of carrying a concealed weapon in West Virginia, said Sen. Charles Trump, R-Morgan.The legislation next goes to the House of Delegates. Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Vermont and Wyoming are the only states that allow residents to carry a hidden gun without a permit.West Virginia already allows open carry of a handgun without a permit. West Virginia law enforcement officials have expressed concern about the bill. They said the legislation could put officers more at risk. They also noted that the weapons-permit fees generate funds for sheriffs departments across the state. Last year, the permits raised $3.4 million for the departments. However, senators who supported the bill kept coming back to the Second Amendment.

SO What? Law Enforcement Officers should always be scared, they put themselves at risk by joining the gestapo. Now if you want to talk about “Peace Officers”, well that is a different story.
Cops like being able to charge ne’er-do-wells with carrying a concealed firearm when they stop them.
Cops need to recall that they are merely an arm of the government WE own and to which WE cede very little control if possible.
Then, they can help us along in our daily lives against the crooks, rather than spend all their time jacking up innocent civilians for cash.
Anyone with a felony record could be charged anyway.
And if they’re a “ne’er do well”, then they probably already have a felony.
Could never understand how requiring a permit passed Constitutional review in the first place.
That irks me. Until 1968 even a felon had the right to protect himself with a gun. Now, if they even pick up one, they can go to jail.
(Oh, right. It didn't. But Miller was dead ...)
The conceal carry permit in this state is a “cash cow” for local county sheriff offices. That is the real reason they oppose.
Yep. If a person is too dangerous to own a gun they should be in prison or a mental hospital.
Post; thread BUMP! Good news, GRRRRRRRREAT comments!
Did you know that the 1968 GCA is a direct translation of a Nazi law?
It’s not. Some people claim they took the ideas from that, but it’s far less restrictive than the Nazi law. It’s not even as restrictive as the pre-Nazi 1928 German law that demanded registration of all guns (something the Nazis took full advantage of when they took over). Unfortunately our side throws a lot of misinformation around on the subject, including bogus quotes and such. We don’t need to. The facts are already on our side without shouting “Nazi” all the time.
Imo if they can’t be trusted with a gun they shouldnt be out of jail
“West Virginia law enforcement officials have expressed concern about the bill. They said the legislation could put officers more at risk.”
They may have expressed it, but it’s a lie form the pits of Hell. All around the states with this same free country atmosphere, are cops getting injured or killed at a higher rate than where folks can’t carry concealed without rights infringing permits? No.
If cops feel too much at risk, then they should work in another field. Bunch of sissies. Why do we keep seeing laws and policies and systems to make the jobs of police easier? I don’t want to give up any liberties to make cops’ jobs easier.
