Netanyahu so wrong in confronting Obama, so right on Iran
The Times of Israel ^ | Sunday, March 1, 2015 | David Horovitz

Posted on 03/02/2015 2:45:29 PM PST by Star Traveler

With the US-Israel train wreck unavoidable on Tuesday, the challenge now is to pick up the pieces and refocus on thwarting Tehran

The prime minister has created the dismal situation whereby even his speech to AIPAC, a day prior to Tuesday’s address to Congress, becomes somewhat problematic. Not only are America’s legislators being asked to choose between their president and the Israeli prime minister, as the veteran administration official Dennis Ross observed at the weekend. But AIPAC’s 16,000-strong, overwhelmingly Jewish audience, in mightily applauding Netanyahu, will be seen by some critics as endorsing a stance against the White House — even though many of those 16,000 have no desire to be torn in this way.

Netanyahu’s handling of this face-off has been staggeringly inept, another activist volunteered, and it follows a pattern of his alienating of world leaders — including but not limited to Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande and Joe Biden — and of exacerbating problems for Jewish communities — notably those in Europe that he has been urging to immigrate to Israel en masse.

There’s a good deal of truth in these critiques. There’s a great deal of truth, too, in the assertions from critics at home that this trip, this poking of a finger in the eye of President Barack Obama, is a calculated electoral gambit, designed to bolster support for the ostensibly unflinching Netanyahu among right-wing voters back home, to prevent them from defecting to rival parties and denying him victory on March 17. There’s no doubting the political machinations that saw the Prime Minister’s Office release a short clip of Netanyahu [ ... ] filmed at the Western Wall ahead of this trip — co-opting Judaism’s holiest place of worship to his campaign.

When you see the guy in a fight over and over again with different people, after a while you start to wonder about his claims that “they started it”.

You do not write like a friend to Israel. You write like someone who wasn’t to sound like one, but has other loyalties in reality. Face it. Your history here can be seen by anyone - we are on to you.

So, tell Harf we outed you.

Free Republic is in a “perpetual fight” ... LOL ... look at any thread with a good number of comments on it ... :-) ...

It doesn’t happen with threads with few comments, because no one cares about those threads. But get a thread with 50 comments or more, and you’ve got a fight going.

WELCOME to Free Republic!

Free Republic is in a “perpetual fight” ... LOL

Fortunately, not everyone believes, or thinks it's funny.

You may not like it, but that’s the way it is ... as I see the perpetual arguments going on all the time. It didn’t used to be that way on Free Republic about 15 years ago, but it is certainly the case now.

I see zero substance in the article supporting his claim against Netanyahu.

I guess it's just coincidence that '15 years ago' is about the time you signed up.

I’ve pointed out before (several times) that this “controversy” appears to have been staged, not because Ibama is concerned about the talks with Iran, or even what Neyanyahu has to say about it. Netanyahu has said the same thing about Iran for years and has said it at the United Nations, in the USA, from the White House, at AIPAC and in other places, plus in Israel, of course. There’s nothing new there. The White House has heard it all before.

The DIFERENCE now .., is that Neyanyahu has an election and there is significant opposition to him. SO ... they have constructed an artificial division for the purpose of supplying “political ammunition” to the opposition, about Netanyahu causing “division” between the USA and Israel. If there is “news” about all this division popping up, with Senators and Congressmen not attending, with government officials saying that Netanyahu is “politicizing” things ... the opposition uses this as EVIDENCE that Netanyahu is causing all this problem and we have to get rid of him.

The “evidence” is being created by the Obama Administration for use in the election in Israel.

The politics of this “controversy” could work both ways in the March 17 election, as far as I can tell.

“Confrontation intentionally set up-”

I think you’re correct.

Someone tell me why the democrats seem to be playing offense now after getting plastered in the election. There’s got to be more to it than just republican stupidity.

I think that he is full of shit and always have. The only reason he claimed to convert to Conservatism is that he and his Black Panthers had a family fight that he lost and after he lost they put a contract out on his ass. He went to the Conservative side because he had nowhere to go. His true feelings are beginning to show. You and he can take Obama and stick him up your ass.

Just talking from personal experience, I’ve seen people get caught red-handed on something ... and there are two ways to react to that.

One way is that you admit the problem, apologize and try to make things right.

The other way is that the person realizes there’s really “no way out” of this being caught red-handed ... so they go “ on the offensive” turning everything around and back onto the other person and they get SUPER-AGGRESSIVE to throw the other person back on their heels and make them confused and not able to respond.

The Democrats were caught red-handed in that the American public did not support them. They took that second option, and they’re in the SUPER-AGGRESSIVE mode to throw the political opposition back on their heels and make them confused and ineffective.

It’s working!

It’s because their fundamental philosophy is a rejection of truth and accountability.

Well said...

People need to keep in mind that Israel cannot afford to antagonize any potential support in either party.

Obama does want polarize his base against Israel, hence the tissy fit. He can afford to lose moderate Democrats over this issue because he hopes to gain the much larger muslim demographic for the far left wing of the Democrat Party.

Netanyahu’s speech will not damage the relationship with the dems in control in DC. The dems in control in DC never had a relationship with him to ruin. They are building a relationship with Iran. That is the problem. Period.
