When the Israeli prime minister argues that his speech will stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, he is not only misleading Israel, he is strengthening Iran, Amnon Reshef, former head of the armys armored corps, said at a news conference Sunday.

TEL AVIV Hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu set off Sunday for Washington, a group of 180 retired Israeli generals and former top security officials warned that his upcoming address to a joint meeting of Congress on Irans nuclear program will cause more harm than good.
It will not only damage Israels special relationship with the United States but also undermine military and intelligence ties, they said.
Rather than slowing down Irans nuclear project, the former security officials said, Netanyahus speech Tuesday will bring the Islamic republic closer to developing a nuclear bomb.

I haven’t heard him say that his speech will prevent Iran from getting the bomb. It’s going to happen one way or another unless somebody has good sabotage ideas.
There is no sane pacifist generation on the horizon (Obama’s strategy, blind faith in a group of people who show no sign of materializing). Some administration position guy was trotted out this morning to criticize Bibi, and all the guy had to say to back up his position was to criticise Bibi for not expressing his position in a compelling enough fashion and not giving a clear strategy to accomplish the objective of a non-nuclear Iran.
Now personally, I’d like to arrest the people gaming our system and offer them money and a fresh start to do what they do best, only to our enemies. In former days wasn’t this the thinking with pirates?
It’s the reality of what’s happening and what people in Israel think. Some here may think that Netanyahu is backed by an overwhelming number of Israelis in what he is doing. The fact of the matter is that he isn’t ... and this could have a serious effect on his re-election.
I, for one, want to see Netanyahu re-elected, but this is NOT A GOOD PICTURE for Netanyahu. And people need to actually know the reality of the situation.
Are you sure they defend the USA just as valiantly in war?
Then why do they give the enemy aid and comfort in the form of liberal criticism?
No need to call liberals “Americans” and “Israelis” as the OP does.
They are Israelis and they have valiantly fought for Israel, too.
I don’t diminish the fact that they ARE ISRAELIS or that they have FOUGHT FOR ISRAEL.
They deserve respect on both those counts.
The “what people in Israel think” canard does not mean the country as a whole. Why can’t you say “liberals”?
Out of 5 million people they found 180 (supposedly) who are Arab sympathizers?
IBTZ!
A mere speech is not going to stop Irans’ efforts. It may throw various wrenches into various works and it may very well make 0bama and Kerry and Rice look like the incompetents they are. That’s what the regime fears. Iran is unstoppable barring military destruction of their facilities.
When I say what people think in Israel, people already know that there are several sides to that. There are those Israelis and veterans and current soldiers who do NOT back Netanyahu and there are those who do back Netanyahu.
Those who do not back Netanyahu are a VERY SIGNIFICANT PORTION of ISRAELI society. When the election happens, you’ll have the FIGURES for that!
You can comment on those numbers at that time if you wish ... :-) ...

Now, if O were voting in Israel, I would vote for Netanyahu, but I don’t hide my head in the sand and pretend that everyone else is like me.
The political spectrum in Israel is very different from ours.
It used to go from hard left to socialism lite, and a center right party like Netanyahu’s Likud party is a fairly recent phenomenon. Israel’s current booming IT-based economy resulted from the relative pro-business policies of Likud.
Someone mentioned kibbutz culture turning those who leave it into G. Gekko materialists. Former kibbutzniks tend to go to either extreme.
Liberal IDF veterans are fairly common in Israel. Here, retired military with liberal-left views are curiosities for the most part.
All sides do agree that Bibi’s speech tomorrow will be a game-changer.
You know how Congressman in the USA think about ONE LETTER they receive from a constituent. It represents several thousand who don’t write a letter. It works the same way in Israel, too, and people who speak out in a group. It’s representative of many who don’t speak out, but will be voting in the upcoming election.
This is the reality of the situation over there.
I must have missed it. Did Bibi give his speech already? How do the retired guys know what Bibi will say? I wouldn’t be surprised if this is an astroturf operation by Organizing for Obama (America).
. . . but you still can’t say “liberal”.
I support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in what he is doing, but I also recognize what the situation is ... and ... that it is possible that Netanyahu could lose the upcoming ISRAELI election because of this situation here in the USA and the significant opposition in Israel.
Israel can’t afford to divide the Jews ... there are not enough of them there already, and there are 20% Muslims in Israel proper, as it is. Take the 80% of Jews and divide them further ... then you give the power to the Muslims there in Israel.
In God’s eyes, per the Bible, all Jews and the nation of Israel is beloved to Him!
True, but in Israel they NEED every last one of them, because there are not enough Jews in Israel!
The liberals want to divide everyone. Call them by their name.
They’re doing the same in the USA, Canada, Australia, UK and many other countries. They are the utopian “world citizen” types that do not recognize national borders.
Does it make an even more compelling case, then, to listen to what this man has to say, if he is putting his butt on the line to deliver this message?
