Retired Israeli veterans warn against speech [Netanyahu Congressional Speech]

“When the Israeli prime minister argues that his speech will stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, he is not only misleading Israel, he is strengthening Iran,” Amnon Reshef, former head of the army’s armored corps, said at a news conference Sunday.

-- -- --

TEL AVIV — Hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu set off Sunday for Washington, a group of 180 retired Israeli generals and former top security officials warned that his upcoming address to a joint meeting of Congress on Iran’s nuclear program will cause more harm than good.

It will not only damage Israel’s special relationship with the United States but also undermine military and intelligence ties, they said.

Rather than slowing down Iran’s nuclear project, the former security officials said, Netanyahu’s speech Tuesday will bring the Islamic republic closer to developing a nuclear bomb.

In Israel, there are many ISRAELIS who do not support Netanyahu and what he is doing in speaking to a Joint Session of Congress. These are not wackos here in Israel, but the very people who have fought wars for Israel, in order to keep it safe!

These are NOT JEWS who are willing to let Israel be overrun by Islamic Terrorists, but have proven their love for Israel on the battlefield in Israel.

SO ... this issue is TRULY DIVIDING ISRAEL in terms of what Netanyahu is doing.

It sort of reminds me of the division over what to do about Putin... will doing more provoke Putin into reacting even more extremely.

I suppose some Israelis are just worried about provoking Obama more.

Putin and Obama are both bullies. The way to deal with bullies is to call them out, not to worry about provoking them further.

I had a neighbor who was an Israeli Paratrooper, many years ago. He was brought up socialist on a kibbutz, but is one of the most materialistic people I’ve ever met. He buys the liberal Israeli view that Israelis are guilty of screwing up the relation with the Palestinians and that Bibi is bad news. I think he’s nuts, myself, but I can’t say I’ve been there.

I think there are many like him who think that Israel’s military advantage is so overwhelming that they can afford to be magnanimous. It’s like those who think that pissing away the US military and economic advantage is somehow cool, makes friends, and brings the world together.

He’s talking about Netanyahu answering back the opposition in the upcoming elections ... the answer back from Netanyahu over in Israel is that he’s not damaging relations and that his speech is essential in order for people to know that Iran must be stopped.

So, yes, this speech is very much aimed at the goal of stopping Iran. Everything that you hear from Netanyahu is that he must give the speech in order that people know why THEY MUST STOP IRAN.

Even former members of the military have political opinions. Sometimes they are not in the best interest of their nation.

Civilization is being destroyed by out-of-control maniacs, we have a US President who stomps on the Constitution daily, elected Republicans in DC who won't end and reverse the invasion of the US, and a middle class that's being destroyed beyond repair in a few decades, and a foreign policy that topples leaders who defend Christians and other minorities.

In the grand scheme of things, everyone should just chill about the speech in the HOR. It's a sideshow...no one's views are going to be changed by it. It's the least consequential way of Boehner trying to prove he's got you-know-what. (excuse my bluntness)

No, this issue is not “truly dividing Israel”. Liberalism is.

And do we not have liberal veterans in the USA too?

Let’s put this into perspective.

This is a speech.

This is only a speech.

If a speech is going to bring Iran closer to a nuclear bomb, then nothing short of nuking Iran is going to prevent it.

It’s in the news and they speak out against it in Israel. It’s the opposition in Israel for the upcoming election.

It doesn’t pay to hide your head in the sand in regards to what is really happening ... :-) ...

Stop calling them “Israelis” instead of liberals. Do we call US liberals “Americans” here?

Seems more to me like hussein’s operatives in Israel are having somewhat their desired effect on them, and on you too.

Certainly they are in the USA too and they defend the USA just as valiantly in war, just as the Israelis do in Israel.

More pathetic, suicidal delusion by idealistic, war-weary Israelis. They just can’t come to grips with the fact that many Americans hate them every bit as much as the Nazis and Muslims ever did. The “special relationship” ended when the enemy captured our flag and occupied the White House, and our betrayal of Israel is only beginning. When push comes to shove, Israel will stand alone and the world’s Jews will have nowhere else to go. Only God will keep his word.
