Gentlemen, thank you for all of your fine work.

You both seem to have a fine music collection.

I wonder if either of you can recommend any software
for categorizing and indexing my music files.

Thank you, in advance, for your time.

I’m sorry I’m not much help. I just keep mine in folders on my hard drive under “music”. I guess a person could put those files on CDs. The guys will probably be more help. :)

I want a way to be able to “tag” them with multiple tags and sort them.
Like:
“songs that my daddy used to sing”
“songs that are good to listen to while driving”
“sad songs”
“happy songs”

Some songs might have multiple tags, like:
“sad songs” that “my daddy used to sing” that are “good for driving”

microsoft media player sux

Actually, I don’t have a library. I go to the “Billboard” magazine website for historical information, then to You Tube to build the links. The other DJ’s have the libraries. I’m doing this the primitive way.

The following link will take you to a page at SnapFiles.com of all of the freeware music manager applications which they have. All of the freeware at snapfiles is adware/junkware/shareware/virus free. My machine is loaded down with applications from snapfiles so that you needn't worry about any spyware, etc, from them. There are more than a few which will do what you want. When using files from that site I choose by the following 'categories':

01. ) Does it do what I want?

02. ) What is the rating that snapfiles gives to the application based upon their '5-star' ratings category?

03. ) What is the popularity of the application based upon the number of downloads.

I then choose by balancing the three and might even try a few of the programs and choose the one that best fits my needs:

For my own personal use I do the following although I do not index files because I can remember most of what I have. There are sub-folders with artist/s's names under each main folder. I also find that "Windows Search" which is embedded within "Windows Explorer" of "Windows 7" does an excellent job of searching for specific songs and/or artists/phrases or parts of a song name, etc. Of course, you can create your own categories! I have showed to you mine only to give to you some ideas as an example. ;-)

Ah, now I have to do an emergency house clean up. Mrs. spel_grammer_an_punct_polise is due to get home this afternoon after a week of vacation for ME! It is so wonderful to become a slob if only for a week but now I have to suffer the consequences by becoming a temporary house butler!
