Leonard Nimoy, the sonorous, gaunt-faced actor who won a worshipful global following as Mr. Spock, the resolutely logical human-alien first officer of the Starship Enterprise in the television and movie juggernaut “Star Trek,” died on Friday morning at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. He was 83.

His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed his death, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

I remember when we were in high school in the early to mid 1980’s, my friends and I used to screw around with my old B&W TV, playing with the antenna just to pull in the then WFAT, Channel 19, out of Johnstown, PA (we lived in the Pittsburgh area) to watch Star Trek.

I was in love with ‘Mr. Spock’, when I was a kid.

That’s a lovely picture.

We were fascinated with the original Star Trek, when my brother and I were kids; and Spock was my favorite character.

One of my favorite episodes was the one where some kind of spores made Spock have ‘feelings’. (I was sort of in love with him.)

Very sad.

It was titled “This Side of Paradise”. My favorite was “Devil in the Dark”, the episode about the horta.

In his last role as Spock in the Star Trek very well done prequel he meets the young James T Kirk and performs his last classic Spock line with that voice: ‘James T Kirk, I will always be your friend’

It still rings in me.

I love that picture, seen it before. Spock drove a Buick.

My cousin used to love ST in the 60’s, we made our kids watch the whole series in the ‘90s, it was great to see it again. We’ll miss you, First Officer Spock!

Too bad the JJ Abrams “lensflare pictures” were such epic turdfests.

RE:”Too bad the JJ Abrams “lensflare pictures” were such epic turdfests.”

I have no idea what that is.

This may be Leonard's last piece of work. If anyone knows of a more recent piece, please link to it.

My Mom cried when she heard the news, she loved Star Trek, and we always watched In Search Of.

He’s gonna be missed in this household.

RIP, and prayers for his family.

No one called me at work to tell me, and no one at work apparently paid attention to the news. I stayed late to work on a project. It’s probably a good thing, since I don’t think I would have been able to work on that important project had I known.

When I got home, my son was waiting for me with the news.

When I was a little girl, I saw the original broadcast of Amok Time. I didn’t understand the context of the episode, being only 6 years old, but I remember being fascinated by Spock’s keen ability to reason. I wanted to grow up to be like him, to be able to put together facts and come up with a relentlessly logical answer by pure brain power.

He was my hero and inspiration throughout my life. I became a scientist, and Spock probably was a major influence on that life path.

RIP, Leonard Nimoy. I only got to see you once, and I will forever treasure that memory. As long as people value logic and reason, you will always be remembered.

I hope the next “Star Wars” movie won’t be filled with lens flares. JJ would have to die for that.

For the Faux Trek abominations he foisted on the public, he should be forced to watch “Spock’s Brain” for all eternity. Lucas won’t let him crap all over Star Wars like he did Trek (then again, Lucas did a pretty good job crapping all over it with the prequels and raping Indiana Jones with the ill-advised 4th film).

Didn’t care too much for his declaration of “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one” and other socialist leanings, but he was a good actor and I enjoyed the roles I saw him in.
