Former Megachurch Pastor Rob Bell: A Church That Doesn't Support Gay Marriage Is 'Irrelevant'
Huffington Post ^ | 2/20/2015 | Carol Kuruvilla

Posted on 02/26/2015 3:36:12 PM PST by Jan_Sobieski

Rob Bell, the widely popular and controversial former megachurch pastor, is now convinced that a church doesn’t support same-sex marriage will "continue to be even more irrelevant." Bell made the comments on an episode of Oprah Winfrey's "Super Soul Sunday," where he appeared with his wife Kristen to talk about religion and spirituality.

"One of the oldest aches in the bones of humanity is loneliness," Bell said. "Loneliness is not good for the world. Whoever you are, gay or straight, it is totally normal, natural and healthy to want someone to go through life with. It's central to our humanity. We want someone to go on the journey with." Bell notes that Christianity is evolving and that many Christians have already opened their hearts to the idea that two people of the same sex would choose to journey together.

In fact, he says the church’s acceptance of gay marriage is “inevitable."

"I think culture is already there and the church will continue to be even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago as their best defense, when you have in front of you flesh-and-blood people who are your brothers and sisters, and aunts and uncles, and co-workers and neighbors, and they love each other and just want to go through life," he said.

I wonder if he ever read the Bible? If so, it seems he never believed it.

Yes, he was forced to resign after he wrote a book denying the existence of Hell.

assuming this is the Grand Rapids area pastor who ‘went bad’ a couple years ago...

it is a real shame when a cleric falls down like this.
Yes, we are all human and frail ... but a pastor is in a position to be looked up to...and can lead so many others astray if he goes off track

at any rate, he’s not the first and won’t be the last...
but God and faith are still alive and well, thank you.

Pray for this fellow. Maybe he can find ways of helping those he expresses concern for....feel less lonely, maybe even help bring them into faith ... (without ‘preaching another gospel’ in direct opposition to the one known to the church)

Every pathology that you can think of homosexuals suffer at a statistically higher rate than heterosexuals. To name a few: suicide, thoughts of suicide, murder, victim of murder, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, gambling addiction, love-sex addition, sex addiction, masturbation addiction, co-dependency, child abuse, child abuser, battered “spouse” syndrome, STDs, AIDs. (Look them up if you want to see the stats.)

Additionally, those areas where homosexual behavior is acceptable have higher rates of all these pathologies.

So is homosexual natural? It rarely occurs in nature, and when it does, it usually occurs for two reasons: an act made during a state of sexual immaturity or as an act of domination. No where in nature do animals get stuck in a state of arrested psycho-sexual development.

How, then, is homosexuality normal, natural and healthy? Why, then, does Rob Bell want people to be unhappy and stuck in addiction and a living hell?

This argument I’ve made without mentioning God. However, God — our God, who is all good and deserving of all our love and obedience — wants us to be reasonably happy in this life, and perfectly happy in the life to come! Amen!

Whoever you are, gay or straight, it is totally normal, natural and healthy to want...

And this, from the House of Representative, 1/1/1963, regarding communist goals:

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

Me thinks Mr. Bell has finally completely lost it. There’s nothing clearer in the Bible than God’s disapproval of homosexuality. A church that ignores clear Biblical teaching is just a social club with its own in-house entertainers.

This country has NO respect for tradition. None. I envy those who live in true CHRISTIAN areas. Up here in Maryland, the “Christians” are pretty much all going this way. Makes me SICK. It’s right there in sacred Scripture, how hard can it be? Two men and two women don’t multiply and fill in the Earth, which is GOD’S directive.

I mentioned Rob Bell’s pro-gay statements to my son (he’s more informed about the emergent church movement than his dear old mom is)...his reply, “Who didn’t see that coming.” He echoed your sentiment that Rob Bell’s been “off the reservation,” theology wise, for a long time now, and these latest statements were inevitable based on his previous move away from theological truth.

Church relevance is important. Not like this, though. This guy will have some interesting questions to answer.

Matthew 7:15-16

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits.

Rob Bell's church is filled with Fruits, just like him.

A church that opposes institutionalized sodomy is preaching TRUTH.
