I watched a program about UFOs and the female air traffic controllers wore jump wings. Saw others and there was no reason for them to be Airborne other than pay and status.

You said: The physical requirements are minimal ...

I’m guessing you never attended Ranger School.

There is a minimum standard to get into Ranger School...that is not the same as if it is not difficult.....sure I have several tabs....enough of a pissing contest....Florida phase has always been difficult....my former squad leader was a Cadre during that unfortunate vent.

6 pullups...70% pushup/situps at 17-21 year olds..5 mile run 40 minutes...is not a high standard to enter a school. It is patoling and sleep that gets you..

And if they do lower standards, than I will take back everything I said about not telling these women they are unfit. And I will do it gladly.

After about a week with only one measly C-ration per day, all you can think about is FOOD.

If you’re enlisted, you won’t even get accepted to Ranger School without a good recommendation from your CO.

The 101st hasn’t been an Airborne Division for many decades.

“In 1968, the 101st took on the structure and equipment of an airmobile division. Following its return from Vietnam, the division was rebuilt with one brigade (3d) and supporting elements on jump status, using the assets of what had been the 173rd Airborne Brigade. The remaining two brigades and supporting units were organized as airmobile. With the exception of certain specialized units, such as the pathfinders and parachute riggers, in early 1974 the Army terminated jump status for the division.”

The last airborne units at the 101st were terminated within the past several years. That was their Pathfinder[2013 last jump status] and LRS[2006] detachment. They are all legs now.

The point is that they have not been an Airborne Division since before the Vietnam War ended.

Generally, I think that most of us think of around 1967 as being when they ceased being the old 101st Airborne.
