There is such a thing. Two weeks or something.
PT test is easy, I dont’ deny that. They score you on perfect form for push-ups however, so people generally do less at Ranger school than they do back in their units. Ranger school is way more than just 70 percent on the APFT though. Most soldiers are afforded every opportunity to pass, while being able to retest on patrols etc. I saw the most get dropped on the swim test. After that. injury plays a big part.
Looks like an even bigger problem here...soldiers who can't do push-ups anymore.
I’m 55 and can do most of that (don’t think I can do 5 in 40 with my knees). While I exercise regularly, I never considered myself particularly athletic.
You’re right; this “test” is a joke for someone 21 years old.
my thoughts too.
I went on a 6 month course last year and I was the second oldest aged 46.
Most people were in their 20’s
I came overall top in physicals, second in running, most in push ups, pulls ups, and , sit ups. Second in obstacle course by one second I got beat.
My 17 year old son bring his friends round and is in ROTC. I watch them do their fitness and they are really pathetic. Either kids today just have no pride or just lazy layabouts.
My son went on a national guard weekend to see if he would like it at Camp Blanding and he got top shot. He said most can’t even shoot or know range safety. Many were fat and lazy, uniform looking like crap.
I have had two times last week army recruiters come to my house for him as his ASVAB score was 78 and he is only a junior.
Yesterday we went tot he marine recruiters who told me he had to do 20 pull ups, which was a lie, you only have to do 2 pulls ups to get in and 3 to graduate basic.
That again is a joke.
I don’t know what has gone in the military , but it has been watered down and become much weaker than it used to be.
It seems to be that if you want a professional full fit military now you have to go to Navy seals.
The APFT to just start Ranger school is but a small part of the overall course. It isn’t a physical fitness school (although some is measured) it is a leadership school, focused on platoon and squad tactics. So, you could start Ranger school maxing the PT Test and not pass patrols. Also, they basically starve you to death and keep you awake sometimes 22 hours a day out in the field. It is high stress at times, although it has gotten easier over the years there is still a high attrition rate.
exactly and if you get time check post 25 please.
For someone in their 20’s then this test should be for basic army not special forces.
The military has changed for sure.
When I went to Airborne school, pull ups (8 I think it was) was required to pass. They no longer have that requirement, and it is directly related to the fact that most females could simply not do them, even with someone holding their feet. Now, airborne school is packed with females who don’t even serve in jump units. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what happens to Ranger school, over time. It is in increments, like everything else.
AFAIK no woman has ever earned the Ranger Tab, signifying graduation from Ranger School at Fort Bennington. If one had, there would have been plenty of press.
Yeah I should have specified assuming they are in ranger school and going through the exact same standards as everyone else. Knowing the influence of social engineers, I am well aware that even in ranger school there will be pushes to drastically lower the standards and I pray hard that the Ranger School will show some backbone on this.
it really is sad to see such a great institution to become a social engineering agenda and now have a professional outfit diluted.
Very sad indeed.
Whoever gets in power needs to address the Pentagon, those who have been promoted based on their homosexuality and gender and they certainly have to increase this fitness test.
As for Airborne, one of the army recruiters at my house last week went into Airborne, 101 division he said and he too said it’s got easier and most don’t even jump anymore.
This administration has a lot to answer for.
BS like this pisses me off .......period.
Stay Safe !
Isn’t Lawrence Taylor a little old for this?
I expect them to weaken Ranger school to accommodate the women. That's what they did when they wanted Female Fighter pilots. "Karen Hultgreen" ring a bell?
If enough to make it through main phase Ranger School the Army will just “deem them” passed the next go-round.
At Ft. Bragg they had Recondo School. Kind of similar.
I don’t think so.
Ranger School is never considered ‘Special Forces’. It is merely a combat school. The physical requirements are minimal, nor is the school considered the hardest. Most of problems occur during the patroling and other requirements throughout the school.
I served in a unit alongside Rangers, Ranger Instructors, and Ranger POW's- and I'd like those of you saying so much to tell them face to face what you think about the Rangers.
I served with SF too, and they didn't mouth off to the Rangers like some of you keyboard commandos.
The 101st is not an Airborne Division, only the 82nd is.
