Yep, I recall that as well.
For the record, I don't care. I am boycotting GM forever because of their corrupt bailout that stiffed legitimate claimants on GM assets. I'm glad that there are much better EVs out there, so I'm not losing anything by boycotting the Volt. GM is dead to me, and no decent person should ever buy a GM vehicle again.
Well I think I've addressed those thoroughly, so I'll refrain from beating a dead horse.
“And the volt still has an electric range equivalent to one gallon of gas.”
Which covers the round-trip work commute of 78% of Americans. Most of us could drive 90% of our miles on electricity with that “one gallon of gas” equivalent, all while never worrying about range anxiety if we need to take a longer trip or go visit grandma.
After looking at the nations of the world that are enriched by oil, a car that allows us to drive on American-made electricity (regardless of the source) should be a conservative cause.
“Well I think I’ve addressed those thoroughly”
Yes, please explain why MY money should go towards someone else via “incentives”.
Further, I live in NY where your figures don’t at all line up with reality.
78% of commute here is not in those nice wunnerful ‘figures’.
Plus, it does get cold, and snowy here.
That’s another reason to hate the government-mandated, horribly unsafe Volt. It’s also deeply subsidized. Each one costs almost $200,000 to make, using lavishly paid unionized workers in Detroit.
Alright.
If you look at the billions of dollars that the west sends to oil-exporting nations every year, and which nations those are, then you can see why it would be a good idea to spur on a technology that could free the west from that dependence and put those nations in the poorhouse.
I did a rough, back-of-the-envelope calculation a few weeks ago that put the cost of the EV subsidies at around $9 per taxpayer per year. If that gets us closer to cutting off the hundreds of billions of dollars in oil revenues that OPEC and Russia get from the world every year, then it is money well spent.
Now, with that being said, I wouldn't mind it if the $7,500 EV tax credit was only available on cars costing less than $50,000. I doubt anyone buying a $70,000 to $120,000 Tesla is going to be swayed one way or another by $7,500.
No, you are failing to explain why MY money SHOULD go to others to subsidize this Edsel.
But if you want to subsidize something with taxpayer money, why not fracking. It’s done far more to make the US independent of mideast oil than anything else.
And also why not Keystone XL as well?
Both fracking and Keystone would go a longer way towards getting us energy independent than a third to fourth rate poorly designed and implemented hybrid that was pushed out for political reasons.
Also: Reactor research!
Nope, actually the Volt was named an IIHS “Top Safety Pick”. Also, all that stuff about Volt fires turned out to be baloney: there have been zero Volt fires in the real world.
“Its also deeply subsidized. Each one costs almost $200,000 to make, using lavishly paid unionized workers in Detroit.”
See post #18 and post #38 above for a debunking of that myth.
Seems like a lot more stuff that can fail that the average mechanic can’t do.Looks interesting though from a engineering perspective.
What a S for brains thread.
The only ones who show up aren’t getting any at home, and can’t wait to take it out on something or someone.
Thread after thread after thread...
Are these folks too stupid to realize we’ve read the same things from them for years now.
Is it senility, or just an anti-social love fest?
Get a F’n life folks.
If you hate the Volt, start your own thread and have all the fun you want.
Let those of us who want to read about it in peace, do it.
Ooops, I meant post #23 and post #38.
