en. Ted Cruz has a narrow edge over Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in a new survey on 2016 GOP hopefuls in Texas.
Twenty percent prefer Mr. Cruz in a would-be 2016 GOP presidential primary match-up, and 19 percent prefer Mr. Walker in a new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll. The numbers present a rapid rise for Mr. Walker, who was at 2 percent to Mr. Cruzs 27 percent a few months ago.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson were next at 9 percent apiece, followed by former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who had been in second place in October, at 8 percent.
Back then, Mr. Cruz led the way at 27 percent, followed by Mr. Perry, then still governor, at 14 percent and Mr. Carson at 10 percent.

A poll of Texans?
The two best candidates are on top!
Ted Cruz gets it. You choice, America: Ted Cruz or Business As Usual.
I hope Cruz and Walker remain at the top, pushing Jeb Bush down to John Huntsman status!
GO TED GO, GO TED GO, GO TED GO
there are alot of great comments at the link to RS
Despite a lot of hoohah from liberals during the Abortion Barbie push, Texas is NOT in play and it’s not even close.
If we’re ever going to elect a Republican POTUS again, it’s all about Ohio and Florida.
That’s where the POTUS race is decided.
Cruz needs to announce. He can continue to fly under the radar for awhile, but he is losing some of his base support to Walker.
This is a State of Texas, not a National poll.
I just want a good conservative, especially a social conservative. There is a lot of time left and things can and will change, but if things stay like they are, I may have to coalesce behind Ted. He is the only one in the top seven that I am comfortable with. (For me, the jury is still out on Walker and Perry.) My other choices on the list are polling pretty low: Palin (3%), Jindal and Santorum (each at 1%).
“The two best candidates are on top!”.......
Lets hope we can get a win/win out of this one. Either one as President and the other for Vice President. Just might be a pretty tough pair to beat.
somebody needs to tell cbs nbc abc cnn pmsnpc salon and all the other scumbag lib media outlets I don’t think they got the memo.
If I didn’t know better I’d say they were ignoring Big Ted, but that can’t be.............can it? /s/
Every candidate other than Cruz has done something squirrelly at some point. Amnesty, Common Core, waffling on abortion, etc.
Jeb Bush murdered Terri Schiavo.
Agree! I pray for strength of Sen. Cruz and Scott Walker that what they say and what they do only heaps hot coals on the responses from the other side’s negative comments and lies.
GOD bless America and let Americans turn back to Biblical teachings...
ignoring Big Ted,
Also note this is the UltraLib Tribune, who likely oversampled D/FW, the Rinoville of Texas.
And Walker just picked up Romney’s voters, if Romney were still in he’d be at 5-6%.
Yes, you're right but it was difficult to tell from the article.
While I'm happy to see the results, it's important not to be misled and assume this applies to the rest of the nation.
In particular, it raises some questions for me.
How can Cruz lose ground to Walker among republicans in his home state?
Is this just a matter of Walker picking up some name recognition?
If not, I'm not thrilled with the result if I'm in Cruz's campaign.
Yesterday one of neighbors predicted that Jeb will get the nomination and Hillary will beat him.
His argument that the GOP will pick Jeb is hard to refute,
They love the most boring ‘get along’ GOPe types and that’s Jeb.
Some are saying Walker and Cruz should just run on the same ticket.............that would probably make ‘em crap their collective panties. lol
