Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has generated a firestorm by asserting, at a fundraiser for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the President loves America.
Of course, thats nuts. Barack Obamas deep and true love for our country has been a hallmark of his career. In no other country on Earth, he said when he was seeking the presidency, is my story even possible. Obama said this, it should be noted, in his masterly speech on race an issue that is Americas most difficult and tortured. If you can proudly assert your love of country in a speech addressing the legacy of what he called, Americas original sin slavery you really love this country.
But it got me to thinking: How do you show love of country?
Sure, you fly the flag in front of your house as Obama does. Perhaps you wear a flag pin on your lapel as Obama does. But love of country demands more than mere flag-waving. Let me suggest the top 10 ways all of us can show we love America:
10. Support a strong central government. The Articles of Confederation were a disaster. The U.S. Constitution was designed by men who wanted a strong central government so as to build unity, strengthen the economy and defend the homeland.
9. Be skeptical of too much centralized governmental power. Inconsistent? Well, that tension is at the heart of the American experience. George Washington and Alexander Hamilton wanted national strength; Thomas Jefferson and James Madison did not. To truly love America is to hold both ideas in your head at once.
8. Embrace immigrants....

Not at all... We do have the same beliefs, but you do seem to take it to extremes, that’s okay, but you should not use your beliefs to belittle others. That may be the difference.
What you should be doing is to gently talk to others and win them over to your side instead of badgering them as you seem to have been doing with me. A different approach could work wonders and Google can be your friend regardless of who runs it you know...
Really like your last response and hope that you understand that using things like Google is not sinful, it is a tool to be used for good if you want it to! Same with your comments on Free Republic. Do good!
Believe me, I do believe that hussein hates America with every fiber of his being. In fact, it's clear that he's foreign born and has never nor will he ever be an American. That said, the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily someone I admire. Much like Rudy Guilliani, the far-left Vladimir Putin has contempt for hussein.
But I can't characterize Putin as a hero any more than Guilliani since he favors both abortion and stem cell research. Those are core values that I can't give an inch on. So while I agree with the content of what Guilliani stated -- it is the truth after all -- I can't characterize him as a hero.
Well, let’s just leave it at I am glad that Guilliani said what he said and it was truthful... The hero thing was just because he stood up to the Media and it was finally time that someone did. Have a good evening...
A masterly use of the Race Card and the first of many significant wedges 0bama was to drive between Americans.
The forehead is an idiot.
Has any Conservative ever said not to embrace LEGAL immigrants? My Parents were legal immigrants and I am always glad for legal immigrants who come here to be Americans, but I have no acceptance for illegals no matter where they come from.
“Of course, thats nuts.”
Mr. Bergala, of course YOU’RE nuts. BEEN nuts, for quite a few years already.
As a professor at Georgetown... say’s it all. LIBERAL SCUM.
I don’t have a problem with legal immigration in that it should be open and fair admission as far as applicants WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE to the society as a whole goes. However, when immigration becomes a political tool for demographic and ideological gerrymandering, then I have a big problem with it. Obama has taken the status of declaring entrants as refugees way too far in my opinion.
He didn't put his hand on his heart during the National Anthem either as a direct middle finger to us or because he didn't know that he was supposed to.
How could he not know you ask? Probably because he had never been to a baseball game, a hockey game, a Fourth of July picnic, a high school football game, a Veteran's Day parade, any number of events and celebrations that an American would be familiar with.
The forehead speaks!
Don’t you just love Begala’s very first principle: support a strong, central government. Why sure Paul, all power to the fed. gov. and its legions of corrupt bureaucrats and pols is just the way to show our love for America. (snicker)
I don't think you can call it a beating when they aren't landing any blows. The drive-by media is attempting a drive-by, but all they're doing is tumbling out of their clown car and stepping on and tripping over each other's oversized clown shoes. All I hear is the honking of big red clown noses as the Begalas of the world execute ungainly faceplants.
Rudy is right. Everyone knows it, even if the leftards can't bring themselves to say so.
Oh yeah, Paul? Then what was that Bill of Rights all about then?
