Meanwhile, Walker, a leading Republican contender for the White House in 2016, said Saturday that he doesn't know whether Obama loves his country.
'You should ask the president what he thinks about America,' the Wisconsin governor told The Associated Press while in Washington for a weekend meeting of governors.
'I've never asked him so I don't know.'
Democrats have assailed Giuliani for questioning the Democratic president's love of country, and they urged the potential field of Republican presidential candidates to rebuke Giuliani for his comments.
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, another possible 2016 candidate, said he didn't think 'it helps to question the president's patriotism or motives.'
Pence said in an interview that Giuliani is 'a great American' who is 'understandably frustrated with a president who lectures us on the Crusades, but seems incapable of calling radical Islamic violence by name.'
Walker was in the room for Giuliani's initial comments, but he had declined to weigh in until Saturday.
'Rudy Giuliani is perfectly capable of defending his comments,' Walker said.
'I know I love America. I know there are plenty of good Americans, Democrats and Republicans and undecideds who share that same belief.'
Asked about Obama's patriotism, however, Walker said, 'I'm unqualified to make that statement one way or another because I've never had that conversation with the president.'

This is what the country has become. Hate your country and you have the entire media defending you. Say that someone hates the country and people threaten to kill you.
The headline (not your fault) was very misleading. Walker didn’t back the ex-mayor’s statement. He remained non-committal. He just said he didn’t know, he never asked the president and they should ask Obama what he thinks.
It was a good answer but it wasn’t what the headline wants you to think. They want to make people think that Walker agreed with Guiliani. Maybe he does who knows.
I read at one time that many people never read an entire article. There are those, and I know a few, who are headline scanners. The media knows it too and they write their headlines accordingly. If you actually then read the article they don’t match. Very frustrating but I think for the most part it works because there are those that just do not read an entire article for some reason.
The media wasting our time with these stupid questions about Obama bashing, college degrees, evolution. Nothing that is really relevant to us as voters. I think it is designed to label different candidates as racist, haters, homophobic, ignorant etc. hoping voters will automatically dismiss them out of hand before actually listening to what a candidate has to say about policies that really will matter once they are POTUS.
How do you see that?
To me Walker was very clear and he spoke the truth.
What did you expect Walker to say?
Spell it out. Put it in a sentence so I will get your full meaning.
I think it was a truthful answer.
And that makes it a good answer.
The media will always do this.
This is not a “cop out.” It is a tactic which waves a red flag in front of the President to make a move. If Zer0 chooses to throw it off and play more golf, we have another example of his spineless guardianship of America’s security which allows the Islamic enemies of the Western World to get further dug in.
The liberals are angry that Walker didn’t WALK into their verbal trap. This is the first of many tests for him. So far he’s shown not having a degree has worked well for him, which makes them even angrier.
Rudy certainly threw down the gauntlet. Watch rinos trip over each other running to the mics next week to disavow Rudy and his statements.
This administration will reply in its usual mature manner by name calling and acting outraged. And of course, it will all boil down to racism.
Ah well, it’s just another way for us to sort the real deals from the pretend conservatives. Have they asked Cruz this question yet? We already know what Palin thinks. I think she was the first one to take the plunge.
Exactly.
So now it’s time to start rewriting what Walker said, when he said it and then tell everyone what he thinks and feels and harbors in his heart.
The VERY THINGS WALKER REFUSED TO DO when asked about Obama.
He said, “I don’t know - ask him.”
Pitch perfect.
Golf came from England so Obama’s love of it says nothing about being pro-American.
oh for the love of....that doesn't sound political at all
I would love to see Scott Walker in the White House, with Rudy Giuliani as his Attorney General.
That might be an overstatement. I’ve had great respect for him, especially with what he did as Governor.
But I think the magnitude of destruction Obama has waged on our country warrants the strongest possible response by 2016 candidates.
What are you talking about, it was the perfect answer, because it was completely factual. That's the best way to respond to these questions.
Typical LSM/Democrat party tactic. Hold every republican politician responsible for every utterance of every other republican politician from the beginning of time. The perfect no-win trap.
1. Do you love America, and explain why
2. Do you hate communism, and demonstrate how with your campaign platform
You're right - great questions - they should be asked...
But liberals fill debate moderator slots and they'll ask stuff to make democrats look good. Candy Crowley wasn't a 'journalist' in the debates, she was Obama's 'mommy'... disgusting - a totally disgusting display of bias.
I’m just tired of games. Games are what the left plays.
Obama has dealt a crippling blow to our country. The severity of this action should be matched with a no-nonsense approach. We should speak directly to the left and hold them accountable.
The left is handicapped by their own humanistic, postmodern world they’ve created: one of the major purposes of this fantasy world is to escape accountability, but their constant lying, game playing and sidestepping proves they still fear being held accountable.
Doesn’t sound like he’s backing Giuliani to me. I think he’s just refusing to play along with the media hoopla.
Except that on a basic level, we all really do know.
