Walker called out for 'silence' on Giuliani
The Hill ^ | 02/21/2015 | Peter Sullivan

The Washington Post editorial board is sharply criticizing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) for his "silence" on former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's controversial comments that President Obama does not love America.

Giuliani's comments came at a dinner attended by Walker, a likely 2016 presidential candidate, in New York City this week.

Walker later did not condemn the comments.

“The mayor can speak for himself," he said on CNBC the next morning. "I’m not going to comment on what the president thinks or not. He can speak for himself as well."

The Post called Walker out for not making stronger comments, and noted that Walker said he would "punt" on a question about evolution earlier this month.

"Mr. Walker likes to present himself as a man of courage, based on his record in Wisconsin, but maybe facing down public-sector unions doesn’t tell you all that much about the bravery of a Republican governor," the Post wrote. "On two occasions in recent days, he has proved himself incapable of saying basic truths that might offend some of his potential voters: First, that evolution is real, and second, that an honorable politician criticizes his opponent’s policies, not his patriotism."

The Post meanwhile praised Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a potential rival to Walker, for saying that “I believe the president loves America."

A spokeswoman for Jeb Bush has likewise said that he "doesn't question President Obama's motives."

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), though, has backed Giuliani, also drawing a response from the Post

"It was particularly pathetic to see Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), another would-be president, scrambling to steal some of the spotlight of Mr. Walker’s cowardice by issuing a statement titled, 'Gov. Jindal Refuses to Condemn Mayor Giuliani,'" the Post wrote. "The only response to that can be, who cares?"

It’s true though, this isn’t a court proceeding where we get to rifle through all of the administrations papers and stuff, no forensic teams have been deployed, so you criticise actions and policies, and there is absolutely no shortage of material.

The biggest problem with Obama is that he falsely attributes many actions committed by Great Britain, France, Holland, Germany, Spain and Italy to the United States. The man is such a complete dunce when it comes to history that he falsely accuses the USofA of actions that Europeans committed, and because he is so stupid (or dishonest - take your pick) he lumps all white guys together. He truly is the stupidest man in Washington, D.C.

I think it was Jonah Goldberg who compared how 0bama loves America and how a wife-beating husband loves his wife. Or maybe it was Mark Steyn. I should take notes when I read.

I would like that to be sent to every member of Congress. Every officer in the US military. Every member of the media. Every judge.

Walker won’t.

Back when RIchard NixOn was president, Vice-President Agnew was sent out to say what people really believed about black radicals, anti-war hippies, terrorist bombers like Bill Ayers and the news media.

President Nixon kept his mouth shut and put out spin saying Agnew spoke for himself, not Nixon.

Rudy is playing the attack dog role for the Republican Establishment right now.

Scott Walker and Jeb Bush will say less nicer things with broader focus group appeal as determined by the consultants....

Walker is very focused and on message. He was taunted and vilified by the lefties in Madison (as bad as Berkley) and Milwaukee, but kept his cool in the debates. He came across as a leader, not a screamer. That’s why he won in the state that elected Tammy Baldwin as US Senator.

Remember, this guy was forced to run three times in four years against these crazies and to endure phony legal investigations. He has faced as much crazy leftist BS as Sarah Palin.

I'm no fan of Marco Rubio, but his entire comment was actually pretty decent.

"I don't feel I'm in a position to have to answer for everyone in my party who makes a claim. Democrats aren't asked to answer every time Joe Biden says something embarrassing. So I don't know why I should answer every time a Republican does. So I will suffice it to say I believe the president loves America. His ideas are bad."

Unfortunately for Rubio, he walked into the media trap at the end of his statement. The press is looking for one of two things: a Republican saying that Obama loves America, angering the base, or a Republican agreeing with Giulliani so they can keep pushing this non-story for another week.

The Democrats/press are also using this as a club in order to contain the damage and to prevent any further revealing.

Well so far Jeb has been spineless and Walker has basically said that Obama and Giuliani are both big boys perfectly capable of speaking for themselves. Point definitely goes to Walker.

Remind me, how many Democrats were asked by the press whether they agreed with the sitting-VP’s statement that Republicans were going to “put you back in chains?”
