The US media have had a fit of the vapors over Rudy Giuliani's suggestion that Barack Obama does not love America. As the Instapundit says, their reaction suggests that Giuliani hit a nerve.
For my own part, I am way beyond that. By the way, I'm growing rather weary of the cheap comparisons of Obama with Neville Chamberlain. The British Prime Minister got the biggest issue of the day wrong. But no one ever doubted that he loved his country. That's why, after his eviction from Downing Street, Churchill kept him on in his ministry as Lord President of the Council, and indeed made Chamberlain part of the five-man war cabinet and had him chair it during his frequent absences. When he died of cancer in October 1940, Churchill wept over his coffin.
So please don't insult Neville Chamberlain by comparing him to Obama. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, because conspiracies are generally a comforting illusion: the real problem with Obama is that the citizens of the global superpower twice elected him to office. Yet one way to look at the current "leader of the free world" is this: If he were working for the other side, what exactly would he be doing differently?
For example, he has spent most of this week hosting an international conference on something called "violent extremism". Whatever may be said of Munich, Chamberlain never hosted a three-day summit on "rearmament" in general whose entire purpose was to deny that "rearmament" and "Germany" were in any way connected. Yet that is exactly the message the United States government has just offered to the world - in between such eccentric side spectacles as Marie Harf, star of the hilarious new comedy Geopolitically Blonde, explaining her jobs-for-jihadis program, planet's mightiest military machine having his woman felt...

Agreed.
An astonishing analysis.
This should be carried and read from and waved from every conservative stage, stump, bullhorn, microphone.
“Obama suffers from delusions. He sees victims where there are none, and cannot call out obvious evil because of distorted thinking and sympathy for those committing unspeakable acts.”
I hear people saying that Obama doesn’t understand this or that (especially Hannity), but I think he understands completely what he is doing—which is the total transformation (i.e. destruction) of the United States. Otherwise, as is commonly observed, he would get something right by accident.
Mark Steyn ping. Another really good column and Slings and Arrows has the money quote right.
Freepmail me, if you want on or off the Mark Steyn ping list.
Thanks for the ping Slings and Arrows.
The difference between a moderate muslim and a radical is who has the knife.
Mark Steyn is the genius of the twenty-first century.
You’re welcome, and thanks for the egoboo.
He’s pretty darned amazing.
Theodore Dalrymple’s books are excellent. He shows that common sense, truth, and the natural law can be perceived by an atheist.
It is worth noting that it is only possible for Obama and his people to engage in this silliness because George W. Bush got us started down this road with his “religion of peace” nonsense. It isn’t today, wasn’t when created, and never has been since the days of Mohammed. Unfortunately most people can’t and won’t read the history, look at current events, and come to this obvious conclusion.
Obama appears to be a tormented man who is filled with resentment, anger, and disdain for anyone of an opinion or view other than his. He acts in the most hateful, spiteful, malevolent, vindictive ways in order to manipulate and maintain power and control over others. Perhaps because, as a child, he grew up around family members and mentors who instilled him with an abiding bitterness toward the U.S. That bitterness seems not to have left him.
It is not the color of his skin that is a problem for anyone in America. Rather it is the blackness that fills his soul and the hollowness in his heart where there should be abiding pride and love for this country.
"If someone had said Reagan didn't love America, people would have just laughed."
Why hijack a plane when you can hijack a government?
Oh boy, oh boy! Did Mark hit this one out of the park, or what?
Someone leaked a video of Obama shooting hoops. He missed about 20 out of 21. Clearly there is no comparison between Obama and Chamberlain.
Has anyone ever leaked a video of Obama on the links? Can we compare him to Dorf?
This is the norm on campus at many, if not most Universities, and is what passes as the ‘intellectual’ viewpoint. It's oversimplified and uninformed, and entirely lacking the important nuances that are a huge part of the truth. Ironically, it is the left who lacks the ability to see and consider important caveats and nuances. It is the left who are mired in rigid thinking and can't challenge themselves.
White = privileged, suppressors, previous slave owners. America = imperialist, colonialist, and slave traders. Capitalist = greed-driven environment destroyers who enslave people economically. Poor = victims of society, greed, and capitalism. Religious (particularly Christian) = uneducated, ignorant, incapable of understanding nuance, hypocritical (with the exception of course of those religions that aren't part of the American/Western mainstream). Armed services = Yahoos who just like to dress up in uniforms, shoot guns, and blow up things.
The list goes on an on, but this is, in reality, the non-nuanced and rigid way the far left sees the world. Kind of pathetic, if it wasn't so dangerous.
I know, right? Every essay by Steyn contains multiple money quotes; he is that brilliant. He and Greenfield are the oracles of freedom in our time.
I was not aware until reading this of "the rest of the story" about Chamberlain. Sobering.
To read later .
Even deeper than that, his birth was a political statement by his mother, he was abandoned at birth by his father and in childhood by his mother, and was "the other" to his grandparents and schoolmates. Therefore he felt no depth of connection to his fellow human beings while growing up, and has never formed a true connection to the source of life, Jesus Christ, other than to use His Name for political gain. Talk about your loose cannon.
I consider Øbama, Jeh Johnson, and Valerie Jarret as 3 of those 160,000 (0.002%).
