George Washington was born in Virginia on February 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar. In 1752, however, Britain and all its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar which moved Washington's birthday a year and 11 days to February 22, 1732.

So,... tomorrow is really Pes. Washington’s Birthday.

Not so bad as growing up with the likes of "Oklahoma" and "South Pacific" for being old.

Your formal introduction to the classics sounds pretty good -at least a teacher or two put some thought and planning into the program - compared to the by-chance intros a lot of us got. Fortunately with programs like "The Firestone Hour" and such, olde tyme radio used to offer a lot of musical programming with some real substance, unlike the hip-hop, heavy metal and some of the rest so available today.

"I'm a Little Teapot" got me rummaging around in the memories for other appropriate songs from long ago, and I remembered one our mother used to like to sing to us. The Itsy Bitsy Spider - the poor woman would probably, as they say, turn over n her grave if she could hear some of the variations on this arrangement.....

Thank you, that is an excellent version, bookmarked.

A little while ago, it dawned on me, last weekend, I found out about these songs called "Kathleen" and then, I thought of your name.

Here, 2 singers sing the same song, 2 different versions, last weekend, I thought these were the best things since sliced bread so in those cases sometimes I will listen to it over and over. Sure, they were new songs to me and would be probably to most.

Anyhow, oldies indeed.

Kathleen written by Wally Lewis and his version.

Kathleen by the well-known Rockabilly artist Glen Glenn

There is a slight variation of words here, the latter a bit dated... but both really get me, sentimental ol' fool I can be

Yes, as to the other post, you posted “The Little Drummer Boy”, that was the one I listened to today, not always wired for sound. Thank you for all you do on these threads.

Thank you! I found Joan Baez’ version a couple choices down from the Carter Family at YouTube, too. That was also very nice.
