Why Can't the Public See Obama's Proposed Internet Regulations?
Weekly Standard ^ | Feb 18, 2015 | MARK HEMINGWAY

Posted on 02/19/2015 9:35:23 AM PST by george76

Republican senators Mike Lee, Ben Sasse, and Rand Paul have all been high profile opponents of the Obama administrations current plan to regulate the internet -- in particular, Lee has called the regulation a government "takeover" of the internet and says it amounts to a "a massive tax increase on the middle class, being passed in the dead of night without the American public really being made aware of what is going on.”

And when Lee says that the American public isn't aware of what's going on, that is in no way hyperbole. FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai has emerged as a hero for those opposed to the regulation because Pai has been taking to the airwaves decrying the fact that the public is not allowed to see 332 pages of proposed internet regulation before they are potentially passed.

I wouldn’t be half as worried if the 332 pages of proposed internet regulations had been released. This is madness. As far as why the public isn’t worried about anything Obama does... electronic distractions and our public school system are both near the top of my list.

Cause they are idiots just going with the flow, and tuning out the world problems, not reading, not paying attention and just watching Access Hollywood or whatever gossip tv shows there are.

Well probably because it will be totally transparent and have no effect on us common everyday serfs. If you like your internet, you can keep your internet. Okay then. That should settle it.

Is there not an administrative procedure act that requires a period of public comment before a regulation is passed by any executive branch agency?

Is that not an issue of due process?

Actually , I am a member of the public, and I don’t do any of things you mentioned, and I can’t see them either, nor do I have any input on them or recourse against them.

And we’re admonished to just keep voting, as if that can have an impact. Voting has a legitimate purpose in republics.

I don’t understand what gives this AH the right to regulate a private system. and if there is no right why is it even being considered?

Indeed it does, but we are very, very far from being a republic, and I don’t see any civil way back to that status at this point.

How is it that 3 people can control how the entire Internet works? That does not seem representative of 320 million people?

That being said the Administration went forward with this after they lost in November. So since they cannot win in the arena of ideas and debate they just want to shut it down.

Oh and of course they do not want to show the proposed legislation before they vote on it because it would never pass.

All these people who do not care will care when their bill goes up.

Everyone but the politicians will get hurt on this. This is because less people over time will be able to afford it and so will people will get offline. Thus, less devices will be purchased, etc.. Which will hurt the overall economy.

I can see a lot of businesses will move or shut down and reopen overseas. Just like that wonderful NAFTA and GATT deal that’s been soooooo good for us............(sarcasm off)
