There really isn't much practical difference between burying them and turning them in (unless you're just temporarily hiding them from a sweep). In either event you aren't likely to ever use them again.

My suspicion is that in the future, even an attempt at a full-fledged police state will fail, and RWOL will occur. I expect there to be a functioning police state that will attempt confiscation, and that initial state of affairs would be very dangerous for anyone attempting to resist. I would expect that when things devolve to where the criminal, foreign, Islamic, etc elements are actively carving chunks out of a collapsing police state America, that would be the time to dig stuff up. Hence it would be a good idea to not only have enough guns for one's own family but for neighbors as well. (I'm thinking Mosin-Nagant, bulk, for neighbors)
